Does anyone else hate unneccessary shortening of words?

About a few hours I saw someone call Mc Donalds Maccy D's or Maccas. It's just a pet peeve of mine when a word is unnecessarily shortened.

Like when I hear names like Daz and Gaz shortened from Daniel or Gary. It's just 2-3 syllables, why should it have to be shortened. Rant over.

Are you sure it's unecessary? maybe they're too lazy to say the whole name of the person such as Gary. Gary has 2 syllables Ga-ry whereas Gaz has 1. Maybe the person prefers to be called Gaz instead of Gary.

but in all seriousness ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Dunno why ppl do that

You mean like that time you shortened 'pictures' to 'pics' in your profile?

They live in Leeds and are the daftest people I have ever seen.

But what does it mean here and why does it have 3 karma?
i get annoyed when people shorten things that end up being the same syllable length

e.g.

jealous > jelly
1 syllable > 1 syllable

well
My mum was always teling me I must go to Nan's more because soon it will be too late. She's always shortening her words so I assume she means I need to make the most of going to Nando's before the fad finally wears thin, the chain becomes non-profitable and the company goes into liquidation.
