Am I good enough for Oxbridge? Proving it here.

I was scrolling through the Oxford offers thread and thinking the same thing: soooooo many AAA offers like what?

On the Oxford offer holders group (relative is in and gives me inside info) sooooo many people are like zomg how am I gonna meet my AAA offer :afraid:

I need only A*A*A to meet my offer for Cambridge

I 'only' got those grades too :O

AAA would be decent. I got like D and E in my A2 bio written units and my other stuff is good so even a B in just one of them and not improving in the other would get me an A. Chemistry is similar if I only wanted an A and I've enough easy further maths units to get an A comfortably.

I didn't mean to sound arrogant . I was comparing it to A*A*A* and making the point I'll be prioritising two of my subjects.

Completely and your positivity and resolve as well as not being a victim to your circumstances is very inspiring to me. (I have to be careful because I said something like this to another user and they got funny with me that I was calling them inspiration porn :lolwut:)

Thanks though I am a perpetual victim I'm afraid. It takes a lot of me to not feel sorry for myself (not for the stuff in the OP but for normal everyday ****. They'll not have my favourite lunch at the store then I'd feel disproportionately disappointed about it - wondering why life is always so bad :erm:. My most comfortable state is brooding in bed while listening to sad music and reading. Nah, I appreciate your inspiration .

I was talking more generally though but as Zacken, you, and jneill have pointed out, Cambridge do generally get it right and if people want lower and easier offers they should apply to Oxford

Lol. It's Cambridge or nah. Besides, my GCSEs rule out Oxford completely.

Thanks all for reasoned discussions. That doesn't often happen on TSR when people disagree with you. Also love that Zacken is now a mini jneill. TSR daddy and son :toofunny:

Don't make it creepy, now.

I also wonder, with the A* only having been in for 5 years of full results so far, how much that has improved Cambridge's ability to get the right students. They used to only be able to give AAA so maybe they didn't give out as many offers because more people would presumably meet them? Have they had enough time to really flesh out whether the A* results are sufficient indicators of performance over how they previously did it when A* wasn't available?

Yep - this is a 2015 update of a 2011 research paper

Your title is a question, then you claimed you are proving it.

Surely you would be proving the fact that 'I am good enough for Oxbridge!', not 'Am I good enough for Oxbridge?'.

I don't mean to be pedantic, but from the above evidence, I would say you are not there just yet.

I used that title to reference the "am i...." threads we often see.

Theres no way I'd state that I am. It's too confident an assertion.

Grade inflation

Grade inflation wouldn't be that dramatic over a five year span. The A* grade was given out at about a 7 percent rate in 2010 and 8 percent in 2014 when I got my results (3 percent for two of my A-Levels)

Yep - if anything grades have slightly deflated recently.

Although A*s have stayed the same 2014 to 2015 (8.2%)

Back. Bit behind  but working much more efficiently. Woop woop. I next see the tutor on the 6th of March. I should have M2, Fp3, Bio4 and F325 as well as their accompanying old spec past paper questions done. It's the old spec questions that are a little time consuming so I don't mind if I don't start the new modules by that date. I was really meant to use the entirety of March for D1, S2 and BIO5/F324 so that's somewhat disappointing. At least with regard F324, I feel comfortable to jump to questions on most topics.

I have stuff remaining in M2 but it seems straight forward from what I've glanced. V+M were just tedious to get through on Fp3 and I really wanted to get all of the practice I could. I'd previously done the first chapter of Fp3 when I started studying before taking a break for Cambridge interview preparation. Chapter 2 I've done previously. I'll probably just do the mixed exercises for the first two chapters. Chapter 3 which is differentiating hyperbolic functions is essentially the same as differentiating trigonometric functions so should be trivial.

The lengthy bit will be the integration chapter. I'm going to start that tomorrow as soon as I finish off Vectors (really tried to do every V+M question).

Until I hit my targets, i may not bother with where I'm up to. It's a little confusing as there's stuff I've previously done and so gets less time weighting.

What I will try to do is talk about about how my time is being spent as perhaps give a break down on how I divided my time and mention any strategies I employ.

Though I've never been into anything fancy. I was at the library yesterday doing some maths and people were around me shading in fluorescent colours. I still hold they were wasting time.

Sounds like a good plan. Careful with CH3 FP3 to watch out for the other cases diff to the normal trig identities

In my opinion, the integration in FP3 is some of the trickiest maths you'll do at this level, so it may be worth doing that quite thoroughly the first time round (I skimmed and now I need to revisit)

Good luck!
