Thug who attacked Hitchens killed in Syria

Amazing story. I really love Hitchens' work but I never knew about this incident in Beirut

Also quite interesting is that Hitchens put his body on the line to deface the swastika symbols of this fascist SSNP Party, the darling of the hard left George Galloway spoke at an anniversary celebration in Canada of this fascist party.

People can say what they like about Hitchens, after all he isn't around to hear them, but his anti-totalitarian, anti-fascistic stances never once wavered, and this is further proof of that.

True that. I feel something akin to a pang of discomfort thinking about all the interesting and incisive things Hitchens would have said about ISIS if he'd been around :frown:

We are truly the poorer for his passing.
Hitchens was a great man
Man got jumped
"Hitchens wasn't a big fan of Israel, and his gesture certainly wasn't intended to defend Israel's invasion and occupation of Lebanon. "

Stopped reading. He was obviously a left wing nut.

One of the cool things about Hitchens is he got right wing nuts calling him a left wing nut and left wing nuts calling him a right wing nut.

Yeah agreed. There's simply no way one can logically criticise Israels actions towards the Palestinains/Arabs and to do so means you must be a Hamas loving, far left anti-Semite (self hating Jew if you're Jewish).

Both sides of the argument are a disgrace frankly, and both assume that any criticism of one side means full blown support for the other.
The notion that you can disagree with brig aides and acknowledge that both have committed awful crimes, showing a disregard for human life seems to be a foreign one.

He was left wing though more or less. The bastard. He never renounced his Marxism like a proper neocon should :fuhrer:

So yeah, he also got right wingers to accidentally support a Marxist. Woops.

A well balanced individual.

I think "pragmatic socialist" best sums him (and myself) up.

Our battle cry is "Well...on the other hand!"
I love Hitchens.
