I'm confused help please. Accomadation vs Commuting

I'm so confused.

Travelling via train:
Pros- quickest way of travelling and cheaper than accommodation
Cons- 2h journey, need to catch two trains

Accomadation:
Pros- don't need to travel far, etc
Cons- very expensive and I'm sure I can't afford it, don't know the type of people u will live with.

is the 2 hour journey each way or combined both there and back? Also do you know what your timetable will be like?

With the people thing don't worry about, 99% of people I have met all really like their flatmates

imo that is too much, especially if you're in 4/5 days a week. Just think thats 4 hours a day travel where you potentially can do nothing (though this depends on the environments you can do work in).

Also depending on the arrival time of the trains and how regular they are, you may have to get the train that would get you to uni 30 minutes to an hour early as the other train would mean you would be late or miss the lecture. Which if you have 9am starts would make it a very early start on those days

If you're only in 2 days a week you could make it work but anymore then I think it is too much time for travelling

If you don't mind me asking, why don't you think you'll be able to afford to move out?

Since, the course is specific, I'm sure I will have to attend at least for 3 days if not more! I think living there will be best studying wise, but the costs are putting me off.

I don't think I can afford it cuz my parents don't work, neither have I ever worked, and I have realised you can't really take a "loan". I am just clueless how you pay etc. Like can you take a loan etc.

I'm stressed. Tbh deep inside my parents don't want me to move out

why can't you get a loan for living? Every person that is a uk student (or EU student that has lived in the uk for 3 years I think but you would need to check this one) are eligible for a loan for living, known as a 'maintenance loan' and as your parents dont work you would probably be in the lowest income bracket which gives you more than enough to live and rent accomdation + if you are Uk student that you can get a bursary (free money) depending on what uni you attend

4 hours a day is a lot to travel - I wouldn't do this if you can help it. I reckon you are better off staying in student accomodation. Where are you going to uni? Most people don't have major problems with their flatmates and if there big problems (such as bullying etc) if you are in halls run by uni most will allow you to move flats. It is a good experience too and yeah, worth it imo.

As far as I know you should be able to get a maintenance loan from SF as well as the bursary + grant?

I'd definitely go for the accommodation unless you're attending a university in London(because that's a whole different can of worms.)
One of my uni's is an hour away from home and accommodation > travelling, but it is personal preference. Most people like the space away from home and you may have issues socialising if you're so far away.

I'm trying to figure out the costs
I'd love to go far and live at coventry, but as a Muslim girl I don't think I'll be able to blend in.

As long as you don't judge other people for having different beliefs/values to you then you will be fine.... and I mean stuff like drinking/sex etc. I lived with a muslim girl in first year she was fab and got on with everyone. She didn't drink etc but she still spent time with us etc so it's cool. It's not an issue really for most people

Nothing particularly. It's just extremely expensive (That's why you get a larger maintenance loan if you attend a London uni.) and a lot of the accommodation can be small and sub-par despite costing so much. For some people it works out a lot cheaper and more comfortable to live outside London and travel in everyday.

There are plenty of muslim girls (If that is the religion where you wear a head scarf thing, sorry about my ignorance I don't know much about these things, I don't mean to be offensive) at my university and when I have visited others they are there too, i wouldn't worry about feeling like the odd one out if this is the case as you wouldn't be.

At most universities there are girls only blocks or floors, you would have to check with your individual university though and may have to make it a request but just drop your university accommodation team an email about it
