Right, but if there's any replies to this particular comment I want it to only be you. This conversation originally started because "IQ isn't a real measure of intelligence". What all scientists and the majority of the greatest artists have in common is their IQs are higher. Students who study art at uni generally don't have high IQs though

Their contribution is different but integral to society, the same society in which those scientists have been educated in. I think that making this argument about "scientists" vs "other" is reductive and rather misses the point. Just my $0.02

Depends on the country. The USA isn't doing too well for instance. The USA isn't the most powerful country in the world thanks to the average IQ. Britain didn't lose it's empire because the average IQ fell. Countries rise and fall due to a complex maelstrom of socio-economic factors. When countries succeed they create the conditions for raising children with higher IQs, not the other way around. Difference between what someone with XIQ and YIQ (noting that we're talking about averages here) can do is miniscule. But the difference between what a country with oil can do as opposed to one that doesn't? Massive.

I'm talking about the difference between countries that are highly developed and countries that are undeveloped. Whilst I do agree that socie-economic factors play a big part in the wealth of a country, in the bigger the general average IQ plays a part

But in most countries, developed or otherwise the decision makers - the leaders of politics, industry and academia have high IQs. I don't see why you'd place this weight on averages when the wave makers are clever wherever you go. And let's not forget the fact that underdeveloped countries eventually develop. And they don't develop because their populations suddenly had some miraculous simultaneous bounce in test scores but because of political/economic/cultural/etc. change in their favour. Perhaps IQ drives some individuals to succeed (I'm not here to debate the quality of IQ scores as a measure) - but they're not the drivers of development - nor they even play a significant part. Rather, development allows IQs to grow.

I accept that the decision makers in these countries will have high IQs that are probably similar to the decision makers in developed countries. But in a country that has an average IQ for example of around 70, it's harder to implement them decisions to let these countries develop

I'm not going to deny that but you understand that eventually those countries will develop, and it won't be because the average IQ suddenly went up - rather the IQ will start to rise as citizens gain access to a better quality of life. The skills that IQ tests traditionally measure (I believe they've become more sophisticated now though) are hugely affected by children's early environments and opportunities to learn. Indeed once this occurs it will snowball as there's no doubt that an educated/skilled (this isn't quite the same as high-IQ) population will be far more able to develop.
