Accidentally applied to crap universities

Sounds like there's a lot of solid advice going around on this thread already about the entertainment industry ect.
Just thought I'd throw this it in there too: say there were another institution you knew you preferred for whatever reason, as an international student can you not just approach them independently and make an 'outside application'? If think this may be the case for some places but I have no idea of the deadlines.
Also, there is a inter-university transfer system. If this is allowed by the institution you want to move to (not all do) and accepted by their panel you can transfer your credits (only at pre-honours stage I think). I know a few people who have done this. (Not that I'm trying to cast storm clouds on the institutions mentioned - as people say they might be great - just sharing the info with you.)

So I am an American and I didn't discover the league tables until this evening. I made the stupid assumption that your university system was similar to our public universities and just picked areas of the country I thought looked fun/pretty thinking they were all of similar quality. Big mistake apparently, I've used all 5 spaces on universities sitting from the ass-level to the toe-level of the tables.

I've applied to Southampton Solent, London South Bank, Salford, and my best ranked being Winchester.

I actually have medium-high grades in my school system and could easily have done "better" so this is why I feel like I've made terrible choices. Is there anything nice anyone can say about these unis/areas so I can feel something other than dread at the idea of waiting another year to go to uni?

Unfortunately transfers are a complete ball ache for anyone in the UK under a tier 4 visa

And the direct entry route isn't technically allowed for someone who has already got a UCAS application. UCAS throw a hissy fit at the university concerned and a lot of universities aren't willing to be hissed at.

Please don't waste your money. A degree in comedy won't teach you how to be funny. You either are, or you aren't. I know a lot of performing arts graduates and they are all making their money these days by working behind bars or waiting on tables.

Oh right... UCAS is such a pain in the foot!

Out of curiosity though, what would someone do in this case? Could they withdraw their application and reapply still as many still apply after January 15th?

Yea through EXTRA, but there's no need in this case. It's a specialist degree offered by just a few universities. OP just needs to pick one from their original choices.

Assuming they still prefer to stay with their chosen course.

Specialist degree? Really? What if the university you want to apply to doesn't offer EXTRA? Would you have to apply next year or something or hope for adjustment to go successfully ?

There are nearly 3,000 universities in the US. If you aren't going to the 8 Ivies or 10 sub-Ivies there is almost no point looking for any sort of ranking.

I think you need to start your own thread with your own questions. This thread is for someone asking about a rather specific situation.
