I know, most riddles are utter rubbish. I heard one that goes like: "You use a knife to slice my head, and weep beside me when I am dead. What am I?"

The answer is apparently an onion. You cry when you cut an onion but you don't start cutting an onion until well after it's dead, as it's effectively dead when you pick the thing. Therefore the only legitimate solution is clearly a pet dog.
