Howdy folks. Please allow me to introduce myself.
For the last eight years I have been working as a football coach, gaining a BA in football studies, as well as many coaching qualifications. I have done this at home and abroad, seeing plenty different parts of the world. I am now a student of a master's degree at Ohio University, studying coaching education, which I will finish by Christmas. Due to reasons such as a glass ceiling, doing bitch work for peanuts, and the only real progression to be made through the industry is a transition into desk work, I have decided to go down a different path. I am back in the UK now, have applied for a primary PGCE, hope to spend a year or two at home learning the trade, before packing up and going somewhere warm again to work as a P.E. teacher. For anyone into football, it must be noted that Mourinho, Van Gaal, and Paul Clement among others, all spent time working as a P.E. teacher.
Why? Well, I've been in higher education for nearly nine years now. Despite all the travelling I have done, all I have to show for it is experiences and certificates. I have no money. I am not a person that is motivated by money, but I do have bills to pay and debts to clear. Teaching abroad, particularly in the Gulf States, could earn you around £20,000 to £30,000, untaxed, with all utilities paid for. Having already worked in Kuwait, I absolutely know that I could do that again. Plenty of days off, lots of interesting travel locations only a short plane ride away, beautiful weather all year round, and the fact that I won't be sorry-ass broke. I can barely afford petrol to get to my part time job here, in order to not make the interest payments and overdraft fees the bank keeps slapping me with. In the Gulf, I certainly won't be poor. With very few salaried positions available, chances are I'd have to take out a student loan to get me through the next educational year. Then what? Stay in the UK, paying bills, rent, and filling up for £50 a go? Definitely not. Go to the Middle East, save cash, and fill up for £6 a go. Petrol is cheaper than water out there. No, it really is.
I want to be the very best, like no one ever was.To coach sport to foreign kids is my real test, to train them is my cause.
