Edexcel Government & Politics - Unit 1 06/06/16

Anyone else find unit 2 so much harder than unit 1? I barely do any revision for unit 1 and got an A in a mock test, while I often struggle to write much for unit 2 questions.

Your stats are interesting but i guess whats important is if the student can pull everything together come exam day.

you're not going to achieve anything by doing 'more revision'. what you need to do is to participate on this thread. you will learn much more than just sitting alone in your room daydreaming about that A* grade that will miraculously drop from the sky and onto your lap. It doesn't work that way.

Tell us more about your journey and what you're doing for A2?

How did AS go for you? What grade did you get and did you, like many on this forum here studied very little and scrapped through?

I'm doing a2 political ideologies which is a step up from AS I find to be a big one especially in the essay writing, and the context gets much heavier -

When I did AS last year someone told me they repeated one of the papers from previous years - so it's good to do every single question and get it marked

Unit two is harder.

That said it isn't difficult to get good grades because the boundaries are fairly low. So if you prepare well you'll be fine!

If you can get 4/5, 8/5, 20/25 and 30/40 - you'll get an A! If you're not too confident, focus on the 5, 10 and 25 markers and you can easily pick up 4 extra marks from there!
Oh and, for those that have started making notes, how long are they roughly? All of my notes for unit 2 come to about 35 pages. There's so much information that it's rather difficult to condense

35 pages for a lot of lessons isn't too bad tbh...
I actually don't have lessons cause I'm self-studying, just sort of notes from the textbook. Same thing I guess though.

I think so too, it's about 150 pages of the book condensed into 35 which is probably as good as it gets without removing essential details

I'm retaking As but I got a a B at first. You need to do every single past paper and they tend to repeat it every year and use the PEE technique. There's also a book which I found called the edexcel AS uk government and politics notes book which is good and gives examiners report which is a good thing, however it may not be up to date.

can you post a link of the book please

Just so everyone knows, I'm German and in my country, the Edexcel govt and politics exam fees cost £542 for all four papers :s-smilie:

I hope that if any of you have questions on Unit 1 or 2, please ask them here. We're only going to learn from each other if we make full use of this forum. All of us are from different countries. This platform is wonderful. Let's utilize it!

can you give a very detailed example of PEE technique for each of the various marker questions? I am sure everyone will rep you for your contribution.

I actually enjoy unit 2 very much. Unit 1 was initially difficult for me especially democracy. But now its very much second nature.

How and why are you self-studying govt and politics? have you done AS?
I'm self-studying because my school doesn't do it and I joined a month late so couldn't arrange anything with other schools. And no, I'm only self-studying AS. For A2 my school will arrange the consortium (not sure if this is a thing for other schools, but basically I'll just have six lessons in a different nearby school and the rest at my own)

Do you have a specific topic for the PEE paragraph

Does anyone know the questions for the unit 2 paper 2015

I remember doing this last year and I remember they repeated 'the constitution' as the 5,10,25 market three times so it did shock everyone who thought it was going to be a 40 Marker.

For the 40 marker it was a question on Parliament and the other one was prime minister being seen presidential or something along those lines.

Sorry for the lack of clarity I forgot :frown:
Does anyone know if there is a thread for the Unit 2 exam on 9th June?
