I applied to 5 unis, 3 of which I didnt really want to go to but needed 5 to fill out ucas. Brighton and Nottingham trent were the ones I actually wanted for fashion design. I have an offer from NUA (Norwich), AUB (Bournemouth) and was declined manchester because I didnt even go to the interview because it was a 7 hour journey for an interview I had already decided I wasn't interested in.
I don't have much interest in norwich because I live here and part of the excitment of uni, for me, was being away from parents and having to start somewhere else. Bournemouth I guess is still potential, I have an interview coming up but I didnt like the city much and as much as this is a silly reason, it is the furthest away from any friends, I don't think I'd enjoy myself there. Nottingham Trent declined me a place in fashion but offered me a knitting course (er no), and Brighton, the place I wanted to go to most, declined me yesterday without even an interview (just an e-portfolio.
It must sound like my portfolio may be kinda bad or something but as far as I'm concerned, it's a fairly decent one showing a variety of skillsn (I can link my e-portfolio If you like). I am pretty upset I've been declined, i wouldnt be suprised if it has something to do with the fact I don't have a foundation art and design or fashion as I overheard a lecturer at the open day saying that people with foundations tend to have a much higher chance of getting in.
Anyway, I'm thinking about doing some kind of foundation at the Brighton college, and then trying again at the university next year. Accommodation wise it would cost quite a bit but it means I'll be in the place I love and will be working towards hopefully getting in, here are some questions which I'd love anyone to answer, thankyou in advance
Is brighton college decent? The local college where I live does not have the best rep.
Do you think this is a good idea?/any other options you think I might have?
Is there anyway I may still be able to get into the brighton university course?
I've found a few options but does anyone have any accomodation Ideas for me? The ones I have found are all fairly expensive, and I can afford them with help from my parents and a student loan but help would be great.
and, this one is kinda dumb, but as someone who is starting in a new city but not a new uni, do you think I could get into some of the freshers week events (club nights etc) to see my friends?
This is mainly because I'm kind of worried because I wont be living with new students like myself and I won't really be having the typical first year experience where you get introduced to new people etc, so I'm even more nervous about leaving home haha. If I do go ahead with this option It would be a great if I could still speak to a few uni students in the same boat as me.
