Nobody has an obligation to answer your questions or anyone else's, including mine, for that matter. Joining this thread, and occasionally posting, isn't a declaration of intention to discuss in this thread between now and the exam.

People will post/answer if they:
a) have the time
b) have the answer
c) actually want to

Many people, including me, would rather do their own work and comment on here when they are able to. I understand you're self studying this, which makes the urge of wanting to discuss things on here even stronger, but you can't just expect people to participate.

///

I'm not trying to be mean or anything, and I'm not attacking you! You seem like a really nice person with nothing but good intentions! :h:

I agree
I find he or she to be quiet rude. We haven't even finished Unit 2 yet...my teacher is awful and going really slow....yet this poster keeps throwing these questions out and scaring me in to thinking we are going to fail. Jheeez!

The manner in which you framed your question is interesting because it throws people off-guard. The question that needs to be asked is 'Should Scottish MPs be allowed to vote on English laws'

But let's take your original question and try to dissect it. This is a classic case of political ping pong. In order to be able to come up with a satisfactory answer to your question, I would suggest that the following be discussed.

the issue of devolution powers

the result of the Scottish referendum of 2014

parliamentary supremacy/sovereignty

Burkean vision of democracy

I would then conclude that English MPs should vote on English laws. and for those that agree with me, I want you to think about this for a second. If you had agreed to original question, why then should UK be part of the EU? Shouldn't UK law makers vote and make laws that affect the people of the UK? Why should unelected and unaccountable EU ministers, commissioners and presidents be allowed to decide on laws that affect the UK?

Spot on! I would also talk about the significantly different political landscape in Scotland to England. Scotland is predominantly SNP, whereas England is Conservative - therefore we have people who are not representing England at all influencing on our bills and deciding what is to be passed. I like the fact you've translated the question onto an EU question. I feel like in the exam something similar could happen. For example, you could get a 40 marker asking to what extent is Parliament sovereign. That would be a lovely question, some of those other 40 markers are very nasty indeed!

Fret not. From now on I shall not pose any questions to you. Does anyone else wish to not have questions posed to them? Do let me know here and now
@Audrey18
we haven't done Judicial and Cabinet yet but when do i will answer the other two
when i start revising for unit 2 haha
I got some points but they aren't fully developed

and about the exam............. check every paper it should be formatted as Section A and Section B
you need to pick 1 from A and 1 from B
so in Unit 1 the marks would be same for both sections but for Unit 2 they change it a lot so sometimes section A might be two 40 mark questions and Section B might the usual 5,10,25 markers  So basically if you revised for Parliament and Constitutional and they both showed up on section A then mate I'll pray for you

Unit 1 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVA4cza02I0)
Unit 2 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZW0tHCC0wo8)
These videos should clear up everything for you

@xxvine don't worry its not only you haha I got a hippie as a teacher xD I think we're starting Cabinet next week

@Audrey18 lol I slightly agree with James even though i haven't been here for long haha

oh James, I'm blushing. Thank you for the rep though. It's nice to know that my views are appreciated. With regards to your earlier posts, I am not in any urgent need to discuss anything with anyone. I'm very much a loner. Participating on this forum helps me I hope to become less of an introvert.

I think it's right to say this now. The Edexcel AS textbook is outdated and also very thin in terms of useful content for scoring marks in the exam. You only have to look at the outburst of some of the members here because deep down they know they are behind the curve. Let me repeat this again. There is no way you can learn politics on your own and expect to score high marks if you do not want to participate freely on this forum. Running away by saying that your revision is still not up to scratch is not going to cut it. Before you know it, exams will just be around the corner.

Anyways, I am sorry if I made you feel that I was compelling you and others here to answer the various questions that I've posted on this thread, which btw no one besides you have actually attempted to answer. That was never my intention.

Hi Hurbad. You're really very kind. If you have any questions please quote me here and I will do my best to answer you. Let's learn together. Now that I know who and who doesn't want to participate freely on this, it makes things so much more clearer and easier

When you were doing Democracy, what areas were you unsure of? Were there any sections in that Unit 1.1 which made you question the actual situation in UK? I am very keen to hear your thoughts especially since you have touched on a very sensitive issue regarding English MPs voting for English laws. I genuinely feel that you have an eye for such controversial issues.
@Audrey18

The main textbook isn't really very good in terms of the structure. There were many things that were left out of it. I've been studying on my own through websites and youtube. I was quite nervous about the exams but now I'm much more calmer.

After going through Democracy I realized a couple of things

democracy is a dangerous thing

there are many loopholes with democracy

democracy is appealing and attractive

it can be used by smart governments to suppress the citizens

there are almost no full-proof safeguards in democracy

american democracy has no room in UK because the make-up of both countries are different

What about you? what were the observations you made when you were studying democracy?
Original post by Audrey18
You have still yet to answer the questions I posed to you a day or two ago. You need to be more forthcoming in your participation of this thread. Afterall you're the TS. Surely you need to lead by example? I shall provide those questions here again and I would you to try answering them. Bullet points are fine by me.

Wow, are you serious? What the **** is this? Are you his mother?

I totally agree with you but then again there's always good and bad in every type of government and any type of voting system so really as long as you're safe and your human rights are protected , i dont think there's a need for greater change

Direct democracy is good and bad at the same time  Good that people take part in it directly and have a clear say but bad that it promotes '' tyranny of majority''
if i were to rule a country I'd probably a mix of socialism(economic aspects cause im not a big fan of capitalism haha) with a bit of Liberal democracy(rights) and a hint conservatism(valuing tradition etc)....... idk
How would you run a country ?

(sorry for any errors , I literally just woke up haha trying to squeeze in some revision before the mock)

Well if democracy is such a great thing then how come UK has become terrible as a country after Margaret Thatcher resigned as the Prime Minister?

You are hillarious.. what are you going to do if I don't? You really have some ****ed up power complex, just wanting to control everyone and forcing people to respond to your questions

Well some would argue that it got better ? so i guess it just depends on your perspective like everything else? afterall this is politics so nothing is right or wrong  just different views and opinions....
One mans Freedom fighter is another mans terrorist (no idea what this has to do with the question lol trying to look smart)

You can't even answer the questions I posted on this thread yet you have the cheek to accuse me of having a 'power complex'? Do you even know what power is? It's Chapter 2 of Neoliberal Political Theory. Please don't use complex phrases you don't actually understand.

Yeah I guess so. Anyways nobody here really wants to discuss exam material or the content found in the textbook. I think this thread only appreciates repetition of the same old silly questions over and over again.

which units are you doing for Unit 1 and 2?

which units are you doing for Unit 3 and 4?

Is Political Ideologies hard?

Is American Politics easy?

Lol. Oh well. Let's see what happens on Results Day then. I shall cease all participation on this thread from this moment on.

I don't see why you can't participate, but forcing people to ask questions is rude and disrespectful. Yes, I know that is hypocritical when I just swore at you twice, but I hate forcing people into things. Just ask a question, and if someone wants to answer it they will. If not, don't go and say things like 'you need to be more forthcoming in your participation of this thread'. I don't even understand what made you think that was an okay thing to do.

If you spent half the time revising and practising as you did forcing people into questions on this thread, you wouldn't have to keep asking questions.
@popcornjpg Mate , you're the one being kinda hypocritical ?
calling someone rude but then replying with a mean somewhat rude comment isnt an ideal way

Just calm down......
To change the topic, how many paragraphs/points do you guys usually write out for 25 markers? For 40 markers I usually do four, 25 markers I do three and I seem to do decently.

I always struggle with the timing the most! I get it finished but I really have to rush the last few paragraphs.
How would you answer a 5 marker on the definition of Parliamentary democracy?
