The Student Room Group

Why have Greegs done so well, in your opinion?

For me it's decent quality at a price about 20% lower than the opposition.

In short, people like cheap **** - it's the same reason McDonalds has become an empire.

Yeh that.

Good quality, yet cheap as dirt.
Pretty cheap, free cakes if you're a student, and good quality.
It's cheap, the food is unchallenging and liked by a wide variety of people (e.g. no innovative flavours) and the locations are usually quite convenient

I can't say I like Greggs myself, but I can see why they are profitable.

It's cheapish, tasty and accessible. Why people frown upon it AND then go buy it is beyond me. I liked the 2 sausage rolls for a £1 - Stopped doing them. Firkins did the best sausage rolls, they've closed :frown:

I've only visited Greggs in two different cities, but they both had it as a visible offer. You get a sandwich, drink, and free cake of choice (or a sausage roll) for £3. If you aren't a student you don't get the cake.

If there's no advertisement for it in the shop then show them your uni student card when you go to pay and ask if it gets you anything extra.
cheap, simple food and the staff address you as "love", "pet" or "honey".
The recession. It used to be the working class just buying from Greggs but now anyone buys from Greggs. As consumer confidence is still much lower than it was, we in general are trying to save money because that's how bad the recession was.

Most of their business is done during lunchtime. Who the **** can cook then, as it's a work day and workers are the customers

Can cook the day/night before, and reheat in the microwave. Healthier than Greggs.

I've always seen Greggs as that one shop the nerdy uni kids go to for lunch
like a Wenzels that thinks it's better than Wenzels

that said I like their tuna cheese toastie thing x'D

They are supposed to charge extra if you consume on the premises but in my experience you can sit on those stools near the drafty entrance. Also I like the belgian bun or apple turnover with cream for about a quid.
