German Cafes Stop Selling Pork Sausages to Spare Muslim Refugees' Feelings

A number of German cafes have started to exclude traditional pork sausages from their menus in order not to offend the feelings of Muslim newcomers, Deutsche Welle reported.

Members of German Chancellor Angela Merkel's CDU party criticized the initiative and are planning to control that pork is further available at work and university canteens, the article said.

"The protection of minorities including for religious reasons must not mean that the majority is overruled in their free decision by ill-conceived consideration," representative of the party, Daniel Gunther said.

According to the politician, those who want to refrain from eating pork can do so, but it does not mean that meat should disappear from all menus.

The consumption of pork is a part of the German culture, he said, strictly opposing the new initiative.

I'm sure the regressive left will put a stop to it.

So it's a good thing if businesses in Europe go out of their way to cater to religious sensitivities and place ancient religious doctrines at the centre of their business decisions?

Businesses can do whatever they please. If you don't like it, stop buying from them. Welcome to capitalism.

It's entirely their decision, but of course people are trying to pretend it's because of the nasty Muslims.

You appear to be trying to ignore the fact that the report says that the businesses themselves have said that they made their decision because of the Moslems.

Businesses can choose to serve or not serve a product (unless it is illegal) as long as the government is not forcing them. Perhaps the removal of products that Muslims find wrong will help a business in an area with many Muslims to gain more customers.
This is the kind of thing which fuels anti migrant sentiment. People don't like seeing their culture eroded.

On the other hand, people are welcome to vote with their wallets. If people stop eating at these places as a result of their decision it will soon be reversed. I generally avoid eating anywhere that serves halal meat for that reason and I'd certainly avoid anywhere that was known to take pork off the menu due to migrants.
It's probably more a commercial decision than something which has been imposed on them by the government.

If I were opening a restaurant in an area where loads of people are Muslim, I would consider serving Halal meat for the sake of ensuring the business is viable.

Maybe the business worked out they'd attract significantly more Muslim customers if they stopped selling products which are forbidden in Islam. As absurd as it sounds, some muslims aren't comfortable going into shops that sell pig products. It's a business decision.
Are Muslims in general actually offended by the mere selling of pork?

It's interesting that the article does not name the cafes in question. The English version of the Deutsche Welle website carries no such story, although does carry one for nurseries apparently banning pork (again, it fails to name them).

There has been several stories in the past regarding the "banning" of pork in the UK that have turned out to have involved porkies. I'm inclined to think this story is over-exaggerated or mere clickbait for those that like to be angered.
Makes me really sad knowing this is the way things are headed
My favourite cafe where I live stopped selling bacon because it's being run by muslims now.

I have to go to a slightly more expensive cafe now. :frown:

That website looks reliable.
I honestly don't understand how upset some people can get over either the sale or non-sale of sausages.

Or at least for the reasons they seem to be getting upset here. I'm a vegetarian, but that's a different story.
Pigs can be happy
Source looks legit.

It does seem more of a business decision than anything.

You must spend your time crawling the internet for articles hating on Islam. What a life you lead.

Yes it is, but I would be concerned about "what Europe is coming to" if this sort of decision-making started to expand, i.e. basing business decisions on religious sensitivities and ancient religious doctrines.

It's really no different from cafes serving kosher food, or specialising in organic or vegan foods. Like, there's literally no difference. They're adapting to the preferences of their customers. But because their customers are Muslim, people somehow consider it a problem now.

People love using Muslims and ethnic minorities as scape goats for everything negative they hear about. Your post is spot on!

I don't think that stands up to scrutiny. If a cafe currently finds it profitable to sell pork it is because it sells pork to customers that like pork. It seems highly unlikely that its clientele could change overnight to be a mass of, not only pork non-eaters, but pork-presence avoiders.

Clearly, if businesses stop selling products that Moslems don't buy while still having non-Islamic customers, they are not helping the Moslems to integrate into western society: they are just creating the beginnings of a ghetto.
This news story is BS, right-wing propaganda intended on making you feel scared.

"German cafes" is a very generic term - it could be one, two, three, five hundred, one thousand cafes. Chances are it's basically skewed right towards the left of that scale, but it gives the impression that every cafe is suddenly succumbing to this. This is certainly not the case. And then the article couldn't help but bring up the NYE rape cases. Furthermore there is no source on this article, the only thing mentioned is an article which shows a politician opposing "control" on the amount of pork, not the total elimination of pork, as the article implies.

It's ambiguity and scaremongering like this which contributes to the racial hatred going on in Europe. The poor, blind citizens in Europe who believe anything the media says are playing right into the hands of ISIS.
