Excellent point - which is EXACTLY why personal law based on religion needs to go in India. This would be a great step forward to making India a secular country in practice as well (rather than just on paper).
Compared to the personal law of other religious communities which have evolved with the times, the laws that apply to us are hardly ever modified and when they are, it's because politicians want to placate the extreme conservatives and the the radical clerics for votes.
