Where to go out of UCL, Bristol and Birmingham for Pscyhology?

Hi everyone,
I'm really happy as I've received 5/5 offers for psychology with my uni choices being Bath( A*AA), Bristol, (AAA) UCL (AAA), Exeter (AAA) and Birmingham (AAB). I think I'd be really lucky and happy to go to any one of them so I'm stuck.
I know that I definately want to firm Bath but I'm not sure which uni to insure. I think I'm definately going to rule out Exeter because, even though it's good for psych and a lovely place , I've always loved the city of Bristol and that is also AAA and so is UCL. Birmingham is a really good course and I quite like the city and its AAB which takes the pressure off slightly.
Please help me choose anyone who's currently a psych student thanks!! X

Congratulations on your offers. They are all great universities.

I guess it's a bit late, but they are all high offers for insurance. You can only miss by one grade otherwise you miss you place if you rule out Birmingham.

There's not much between the universities academically so I would go for whichever city you fancy.

Hi!
Thanks for the reply! I know they are all high but I figured i wouldn't want to go to a uni that had lower grades if I didn't like it or the course. Do you think I should insure birmingham then? Thanks

It's a safer strategy if you like Birmingham as much as the others. It's a well respected uni in general and for psych.
This is difficult. Obviously Birmingham is the safest choice, but would you be happy there? I would say there is no point in putting an insurance you wouldn't be happy with, even if it is more achievable, but if you liked it and could imagine yourself there then it would be the most sensible option. What are your predicted grades? Is the A*AA for Bath a stretch, or something you're fairly confident of getting? If it's a stretch then Birmingham would be a better insurance than the others, but if you're anticipating exceeding your Bath offer and the insurance is just for if you have 1 bad paper or something then you should be ok with any of them. I'm 2nd year at Bath, so let me know if you have any questions. Good luck!

Since your firmed Bath I would put as my insurance choice:

UCL>Bristol>Birmingham.

Although Birmingham seems like a safer choice as it is 2 grades lower, the real question you have to ask if "if you miss your place at bath can you realistically see yourself studying at Birmingham for 3-4 years?". Personally, I'd put UCL.

I didn't do A Levels to get in, so that isn't much use to you, but I do know that generally speaking they stick to the A*AA entry requirements, but it can vary from year to year depending on numbers - if they have too few students who met their offer then they would take people who slightly missed their offer rather than go into clearing, but some years they have too may students make their offer, so then obviously they don't take anyone who is at all under. The course is good - it's a really nice department - very friendly, approachable staff etc. We have our new building opening next month too, so that's exciting. I am doing my placement in child and adolescent mental health, which is what I wanted, but there are hundreds of placements you can apply for - I have friends who will be in adult mental health, education, prisons, forensic psychiatric wards, businesses, research - all sorts. Some people go to the USA or Australia and do research in a uni there for their placement, then there are lots of placements in UK universities - Cambridge, Oxford, Bristol, Bath, Manchester, Exeter to name a few, in all areas of psychology. Then quite a few prison and forensic psychiatric ward placements. Then lots of health and clinical placements - some in medical settings, so clinical psychology working with people with physical illnesses for example, Then lots in IAPT, some in private hospitals like The Priory, some in specialist areas of clinical psychology, for example working with refugees, and some in child/adolescent mental health. Then some people go to businesses and do business psychology, one guy I know is going to the BBC. All sorts! I want to do clinical psychology and am particularly interested in working with young people, which is why I am doing what I am doing, but I can guarantee there will be lots of placements you will be interested in - it is really hard choosing where to apply! I'm not really a big clubber, so for nightlife questions you might be better asking on the forum for Bath Uni, as people from any subject can answer that, and probably better than me. There is definitely plenty to do though!

Thank you so much! Your reply was very helpful
Choose Birmingham as your insurance,

The campus is beautiful, the social life is amazing, it has a strong academic reputation, and has best job prospects (Birmingham has number 1 graduate employment in the UK).

The fact that it is safer as well is an added bonus!!
