Trouble with encouraging women not to go out alone at night is that it inadvertently puts the blame on the woman for being out on her own at night when in reality it is the rapists fault for raping the woman in the first place.

It is a shame that we live in a world now where people can't just go out at whatever time of day or night they like alone without there being a risk of being attacked and violated.

No it doesnt. Warning somebody something bad might happen if they do something is not the same as blaming them if it does.

So you think trying to keep people safe is victim blaming, is it wrong to tell people to lock their front door when they go to bed?

When could anyone go out at any time night or day and be completely safe?

Yep and the Police telling people not to approach criminals is the same as blaming them if they're attacked by them.

Telling someone to lock their door is the same as blaming them if they get burgled.

Telling someone to wear a seatbelt is the same as blaming them for getting hurt if they're in a car crash.

No because that isn't a crime that predominantly affects women. Special considerations and subversion of logic should only apply to women.

I wasn't saying that they are intentionally blaming the women who get raped, and I'm sure that they do have their best interests at heart in making this warning. However, inadvertently it is blaming women because I can guarantee you people will be saying "What was she doing out so late on her own?" rather than focusing on the real issue that that bastard should not have raped her in the first place whether she was out at night alone or not!
sazzy said it so nicely- It is sad that women aren't allowed to go out at night because of rapists :'(
