Yeah my friend applied during Terminale (final year in french system for those interested) and originally got turned down specifically because of the french back, but they called him back around May!

I'm fully french but lived in London for all my life (mixture of English schools and French lycée - maybe I should make a blog about it too... :colone: ). Having done GCSES and sort of prepared A-levels plus the Baccalauréate - I definitely think the A level system is better or maybe the IB as a good compromise. The French Bac tries to be "well rounded" but it fails again by leaving out and discouraging those are just not that good in certain subjects, whilst also not being able to specialise nearly as much as, say, the sciences or maths.

You're french !! Hi five :P
Am glad for your friend !! He's better there than here

Yes make a blog !! I would be happy to read it , sounds like a really interesting story !

I think IB is a good compromise too, but definitely nothing like the regular baccalaureate
This "well-roundedness" (yes I'm good to invent words !) is absolutely STUPID, and did you see the coeff of the subjects ?? Simply awful, for my scientific baccalureate for ex :
Maths : 7
Physics : 6
Biology : 8
Philosophy : 3
English (first choice) : 3
German (second choice) : 2
PE : 2
That's like a depreciate of a few subjects ..

Translation ! :
Hahaha if we're talking about history that's without me, I suck at this subject !

Really ?? But where does your friend live ? Idk about other places but here in Paris there is like zero racism, everyone live together !

Don't worry it's okay your french is not that bad ;D

Not to rain on your parade, but it's against TSR rules to chat in non-English languages without providing an English translation outside the MFL study help section. I don't mind, but there are some very petty people around who will report posts just to spite people.

And the mods will see that anything posted is non-offensive, and was intended as the medium by which a potential linguist student studying french sought to converse with a native speaker in furtherance of that objective. Short of accusing me of criminal conduct, they would be hard pressed to actually make a complaint stick.

The bar is pretty low -- most cards that you get for minor things are easily reversed on appeal. I just wanted to mention it so that everyone's aware of it. :emo:

Thanks ;D

Very interesting post, very much looking forward to the next one!
I've been studying in France for the past 9 years, did my Bac last year, I really disliked the French education system, i'm very glad to have gotten away from it now.
I've heard a lot of horror stories from friends currently in med school in France, sevral of them have already given up and are now completely screwed because the stess was too much for them. I can't pretend to know what French higher education is like, but i'm glad i'll be studying in the UK, I know I could never handle that much pressure
Not really interested in the medicine part, just more interested in how you dealt with things. So I'll be subbing.

Bac S. Lycée really was dreadful; I made some great friends and have some fun memories, but I've lost count of how many times I got screwed over by teachers and the school. My Prof Principale messed up my Ucas application and I had to take a year off after getting no offers to study, I got so angry about it that I very nearly screwed up my whole Bac :/
Are you still studying in France?

OH MY GOD MESSING UP WITH UCAS ???? Your teacher is a monster o_____O I know it's probably not on purpose but still ..
I have a bac S too :3

Yes I'm studying in France, I'm french I was born there, I'm 20, had my Bac S at 18, went to med school, did one year and a half (one year + retook the year) and dropped out after my results two months ago to apply abroad
I'm currently working on an entrance exam for a med school in Czech, and I was eligible in a med school in New Zealand (but I want to go to Prague, fingers crossed :P)
What do you study  ?

Aha I'll think about.

I for one actually didn't mind the Bac (S) since I like most subjects, ie languages and philosophy too; but would have really enjoyed doing no biology or chemistry and more maths instead :frown:

Tbf there are some positive things like the "options" if you want to do Greek or Latin and helps get a better average!

I'm just so excited to go to UCL next year tbh  where are you planning on studying already?
