Could you live off £14 a week?

Your parents have the income to support you... Some peoples parents don't. But your parents didn't invest or plan their finances hence why you are in this situation.
Maybe you should ask your parents to take out a loan to cover the short fall or get a job yourself.

I don't know why you can't get this through your skull but the government doesn't owe you anything... You're not even from the uk.

And before you go on about how your parents pay their taxes, well those low wage families have mainly been in the uk for generations and have paid their dues.

Be glad we even let you into our country and allow you to have a loan even if it's not the full amount that you feel you are entitled to.

It's not about race it's this whole entitlement issue I have a problem with and if he is going to start claiming he is more entitled then I'm going to state who I feel is more entitled to the money.

I have no qualms with the English, I'm actually proud to be part of the U.K.

It's a generous state but people like this are just draining and trying to rob the system of everything they can get their hands on just like benefit scroungers.

Also I've got plenty of jobs, many I'm sure he would never do because he's too entitled.

Hang on, we don't know where this poster is from! They may have lived all their lives here or long enough to be entitled to all the same services as any other person here. For all you know they are a British Citizen. If not, who cares. I for one am glad that they did come to the UK. Furthermore, you know nothing about the circumstances in which their parents came here. Nothing. If their parents pay their taxes that should be more than enough to entitle them to access government services. We actually know next to nothing about this person's circumstances. I'm just sorry that people with connections outside the UK encounter such xenophobia.

I've been pretty chill about finances up until today, until I realise I've got my household income pretty wrong and using the student finance calculator, I'll be getting about a grand less than I thought I would.

Leaving me with like £24.33 a week, I took out £40 for a monthly shop and this is over 42 weeks, and this leaves me £14 a week. I have friends who seem to be balling it out in Uni, where as I'll be dirt broke.

Isn't it a bit unfair to assume that my parents will cover the difference that others get from student finance just because they earn more? I know someone who lives in a single parent house and gets lots of money but she's an only child and her mum owns her house and she's kind of old (late 40s or 50) so she doesn't spend as much.

Whereas I have a sibling, my family don't own property in the UK, they need to pay for things like nursery. So its not like they just have all this disposable income to hand over to me.

At first I thought you genuinely believed what you said about parents earning more but considering how much loan you get I'm guessing you just wanted justification for it.

I'm not being a victim, I am annoyed at how obnoxious you are. I blame the people who don't earn any money and take the biggest share of the government money, why should I blame someone who worked hard.

I don't moan about my parents being poor... I work extra hard to make sure I'm never in that position and that I never put my future children in that position.

But you've only outlined what he couldn't do (surviving on £10 a week), which doesn't really help me understand what he could do (as in how he would in fact survive on such a pittance).
