A circle passes through the points (2,0) and (8,0) and has the y axis as a tangent. What is the 2 equations for the cirlce.

Is there no simultaneous equation with it? Usually you'd put the two intercepts into the simultaneous equation and the solutions for them both would be your two solutions

Do you recall the fact that the equation of a circle is (x-a)^2 + (y-b)^2 = r^2?

What does the circle being tangent to the y-axis imply? Try drawing a sketch.

Yes I recall, but I don't know the centre?

(x-a)^2 + (y-b)^2 = r^2 <---- the x and y in those are the centre of the circle co-ordinates
