The CIA set up the European Movement that runs StrongerIn

A fascinating paper has recently come to light which shows that the CIA financed the European Movement - the organisation that set up "Stronger in Britain". Those who imagine that the EU will be a beacon of socialism have it all wrong: the EU is a beacon of US style corporatism and just waiting for TTIP and a "Remain" vote in the referendum to "let rip", as the Americans say.

"The European Movement was formally created on the 25th October 1948, when the Joint International Committee for European Unity decided to change its name. Duncan Sandys was elected President and Léon Blum, Winston Churchill, Alcide De Gasperi and Paul-Henri Spaak were elected as Honorary Presidents. The first major achievement of the European Movement was the creation of the Council of Europe in May 1949." History of European Movement

Laura Sandys, the current Chair of the European Movement UK is the daughter of Duncan Sandys. The European Movement was financed by the Americans in an operation called ACUE (American Committee on United Europe) which was sanctioned by the Allies after WWII. Duncan Sandys realised that the USA was the only large scale source of funds but was: "Very anxious that American support for the European Movement should not be known" . ACUE also funded Jean Monnet's ACUSE and was run by the CIA.

Before people post "conspiracy theory" they might notice that this post is about history. See the previous post on the Marshall plan in which aid was contingent on union. The EU was US policy.

Unsurprising, since the US wanted a strong, united Western Europe to deal with the Commies

The US could have simply bolstered the Nation States without subversively creating a "United States of Europe" (see all the "USE" acronyms in OP). The USA wants a US dominated "West" with which to govern the globe and bring peace and universal joy to all mankind - cue Coca Cola advert...
Of course the European post-war project was an American power play - better that than the Soviets swooping in to "save" us. But today the EU is a larger economy than the US. Frankenstein's monster is out of the cage. Europe must hold together. For the UK, with 1/6 of US GDP, if we left we would succumb to the US and its degenerate mores all the quicker.

Then why is Goldman Sachs, the US Investment Bank the major funder of "Britain Stronger in Europe" campaign (and JP Morgan second).? See my post on Cameron Supporters.

Because then they can invest in the economy of a united rather than fragmented Europe. The value of the West to investors is in stability, safety and efficiency.

Well, obviously the US banks and Americans want the EU, they wouldn't have created it otherwise! I love your use of the term "West" as if the conquest had already been accomplished.

However, if you vote pro-EU because you believe in social justice you are fooling yourself, in the long run no American organisation will be socially just - the Americans think the UK Tory party is Left Wing!
We're damned if we're in, damned if we're out.

This isn't a win/lose situation. What does an anti-semitic conspiracy theory have to do with Brexit anyway?

What about this conspiracy?

Don't be so surprised they're the biggest pushers of immigration while people forget they have Israel...
We should be calling out the Jews including in Britain on their double standards.
Will anyone ever stand up against them again?

Coudenhove-Kalergi, the founder of European Union was a psycho but so was Hitler. It took two to tango. The role of Pro-Europa in WWII is only recently being re-assessed, the Allies suppressed it, and even Hitler's tirades against it in his Second Book.

Forget the Jews and racism. Don't repeat the 1930s. The EU is about US power, they are acting in self interest to create "The West" that they can then use to further their interests. Ultimately politics is about wealth and power because power can set the conditions to bring wealth and wealth can pay for power. The Americans want the wealth and power to flow their way, the UK should arrange to intercept some of it by being independent. We certainly should not be the docile slaves of US foreign policy.

Safety in numbers.

If we leave the EU then the conservative government will be able to pass corporate US policies like TTIP more easily. So your points about US domination are meaningless.

You cannot have an American, corporate EU AND a socialist all marching together EU. It is going to be one or the other. Scaremongering about leaving does not resolve the issue. The simple fact is that it will be American style - they hold all the corporate cards.

"West" is an economic descriptor, the countries having very similar risk/return profiles.

The EU was an American project but now it has taken on a life of its own and eclipsed America.

The EU is very neoliberal but crucially not as far gone as the domestic political culture here in the UK. It's a straightforward calculation: not for utopians.

And it's going to be far easier for them to convince one already free market fundie country to adopt TTIP than 27, some of whom are Southern European, some of whom are Eastern European, plus France.

The "West" corresponds to NATO when the chips are down. At other times it is the Allied conquests after WWII. Take away all the hype about what lovey dovey people we are and imagine the political map being presented in a history book in three centuries time. Its like the Holy Roman Empire, there are lots of "countries" but everyone knows who is the emperor - the BBC even calls him "The President" not the "President of the USA".

I would be wary of these apparent truths about the current EU, they sound too much like the lecture at Langley where the white board comes out and the lecturer says: "What do we want the Europeans to believe about the EU? We all know the Eurotrash are a bunch of pinkos so this is what we tell em and encourage until there is a proper Union..."

PS: did you see the guest list at the European Movement's last Elite Group meeting?

Can't find a sensible moral high ground so just chanting "racist" even when there is no evidence at all of racism, no mention of races even and certainly no conspiracy theory? You are hilarious.

I can't even remember what you posted, so whatever it was, it probably didn't carry any weight.

More scaremongering!

The pro-EU lobby should study the object of their affection. They will discover that it is not what it appears to be.

No puppies were killed during this debate, the only victims were false dreams of an EU that doesn't exist.

There's no doubt that we are under an American empire, but the thing about empires is the centre of power shifts over time. We have more of a chance of breaking American dominance over the West if we act as a continent (as the *United States* of America have been doing for at least 150 years).

I don’t understand why going it alone would help Britain to dominate the Western alliance, unless you want to break from it completely and be a big fish in a small Commonwealth pond.
