Sorry to hear that. But if you think people aren't like that at uni, you're in for a surprise. Nobody has intellectual conversation at a party where everyone just wants to get wasted. People you become friends with turn out be two-faced, nasty and don't give a **** about you, especially if you don't drink. So at least you've experienced it earlier than most people will and you'll know what to expect when you get to uni.

People need alcohol to cement friendships. If you don't drink, you're seen as boring and people won't include you as much in their activities. I go to club nights to enjoy music and dance without touching a drop of alcohol, and I go to non-alcohol events with plenty of people so it's not like I haven't got the confidence to socialise. But nobody else gives a **** about you unless you're wasted like they are. Eventually your own friends stop inviting you to things - nobody wants to make an effort for someone who doesn't drink and it gets very isolating when you live in a student city where everything involves alcohol.
