People need alcohol to cement friendships. If you don't drink, you're seen as boring and people won't include you as much in their activities. I go to club nights to enjoy music and dance without touching a drop of alcohol, and I go to non-alcohol events with plenty of people so it's not like I haven't got the confidence to socialise. But nobody else gives a **** about you unless you're wasted like they are. Eventually your own friends stop inviting you to things - nobody wants to make an effort for someone who doesn't drink and it gets very isolating when you live in a student city where everything involves alcohol.

Hmm i never knew that, did/do u live in student halls and can I ask what the reason for u not drinking is? Religion or preference?

Bit of both. I don't drink because of religion but it's also out of choice. I hate the smell of the stuff and how it makes people behave. All those people drunk off their faces spilling out of clubs and ending up in A&E on Friday/Saturday nights is what really makes me hate living in this country. I choose not to drink cos I don't want to end up like that. Unlike some other people on my course who were religious before they started uni but gave into peer pressure and started drinking within the first few weeks of term. Shame on them.
