I got an offer for Hartley Grove. Didn't realise it was so expensive. 145 a week. Didn't know what I was getting myself into.
Anyway, my question is how common is it to have second or third years in halls and if they get put together in flats.

And also, from your experience, do international students get put into the same flats?

Ouch! That is a bit on the expensive side :frown:

It's actually pretty common to have 2nd/3rd years in halls, I know in Monte there are a couple flats which are all 2nd/3rd years, but only because they all applied to be in a flat together.
However, in terms of international student allocation, my current flatmate moved from an all international flat, 6 internationals and 1 home student. But I don't know for sure if this is majorly common. But even if international students are not grouped in halls together, most of them tend to join their country society and all make friends there, for some reason they seem a bit distant to us home students :frown:

Hi I only got 4 C's and 1 B in gcse and rest D's and 1 E grades.
What is the entry requirement for this university?
Will I be able to go to a university?
I do one a level Religious studies and two btec level 3 diploma

Hi!
The university don't majorly take into account your GCSE grades, so I wouldn't worry :smile:

The usual requirements for Southampton range from BBB-A*AA maybe? I'm not 100% sure :/ and I'm sure you could still go to university, however, you'll have to check with the university website and also the UCAS website to see if they will accept your diplomas :smile:

I am going to be starting an undergrad course being 25 and I really like the sound of Wessex, being sociable an all, but at the same time I want to be able to sleep at night and meet some people of similar age. What do you think?

I'm a current student and I have just been offered halls for my second year (the whole house thing didn't work out - don't even go there haha). I double checked with Accommodation services and they said they group all returning students together, so we won't be placed with first years!

I'm not sure if there's specific postgrad accommodation at Wessex, but from what I've heard, many postgrads live in Monte V,W,X,Y,Z- they're the much newer blocks and are generally VERY quiet halls.
However, if you're still feeling social, there are specific post grad halls in Archers Road called St. Margarets, and you are still real close to the Bedford Place clubs without having to trek ages to get there! :-)

I am only a first year but Aerospace in first year is similar to other engineering degrees* with 1 separate specfic module to do with flight mechanics and aircraft operation (the best module).
* basic 5 modules are Mathematics; Thermofluids; Computing and Design; Electronics; Statics, Materials and Dynamics.
I believe they have connection with military defence and BAE which you can possibly present your projects to in 3rd and (if masters) 4th year.
Career options are quite varied as you gather a general engineering background before specialising, so you could probably go into any mechanical or aircraft, etc engineering job or anything to do with maths.

I've been thinking about Glen Eyre or Highfield, as they are close to university, but I don't know if for example, Archers would be a good option, as it is closer to city centre.
I don't really know how I have to choose the hall I want. Do I have to fill a list saying which hall I want and the room type in each hall?

I don't think it matters much whether you're closer to Highfield campus or downtown because you get a free bus pass for the whole year if you live in halls. I have friends at catered halls and they don't really rate the food; it's like the kind of stuff they used to get at school, apparently.

I live at Archers and it's pretty great. I get an ensuite bathroom and I'm close to the train station, supermarket, WestQuay (shopping centre) and most of the good nightclubs. Bus stop is about 5-10 minutes walk away, but if it's a nice day, the walk to campus is pretty nice (2 miles-ish and the footpath goes through Southampton Common).

Do you know if this will put me at a disadvantage for getting the type of room I want - i.e, do they allocate them on a first come, first serve basis? Sorry if this is a bit of a stupid question!
