I once approached a girl in the library with a piece of paper and we played noughts and crosses, after I told her to write number and that was it.

It is possible! But taking a gap year doing what you really love might help you finding a gf. What interests you? Lets say, you take up acting classes. Wouldn't it be cool if you found someone in that class and talk about what you guys have in common??

d) Yep option d, I said I wasn't going to tell you my preference. In the Bahamas with close friends instead of being alone.
