More likely that a planned attack (not necessarily on Brussels) has been brought forward because of the fear that the terrorists' cover has been penetrated.

Most likely, hopefully we will have a bigger picture of the whole situation soon

Dad says all mobile networks there have abruptly stopped working. Either overloaded or the authorities have taken them down deliberately.

Bombs can be detonated fairly simply by a mobile phone. If the intelligence services have a suspicion this is the method of detonation, this may be a precautionary measure.

Sky says terrorist action, shots fired, shouts in Arabic, then an explosion.

The whole thing terrifies me. Absolutely disgusting. How could anyone in their right mind commit such atrocity?

I don't understand the mindset of people who do this and I never want to. It's horrifying.

Less than a year after the Paris attacks :frown:

To also stop the terrorists communicating with one another
And you have idiots on here who are saying that we'd be safer in the EU...

Even if not, it stops co-ordination between terrorists, assuming the government/security forces have an independent secure network.
This is starting to look very similar to the Paris attacks.

No religion dehumanises non-believers like islam does, and add "divine command" to the mix, anything is possible.

Also true. Good points!

Perhaps it could've. But it is worrying knowing that borders aren't secure.

Anyway I'm not going to go political any more on the thread.

All I can say is thoughts are with whoever went through it.

Lets think that one through. New York and Washington aren't in the EU. Mombasa and Bali aren't in the EU. Morocco isn't in in the EU. Sydney isn't in the EU.

All of the 7/7 bombers were Brits.

Apart from arguments about co-operation between security forces, in what way would membership of the EU make a difference.

mmm good insight, i liked the bit where you reinforced your argument with evidence
HLN now says 13 dead in total.

Military in charge in city centre, evacuating all stations.

Closures of all main networks, rail, metro. Phones not working in many areas. Soldiers on streets.
