I was tempted. But over time I've grown no less economically left-wing but I do think I've become less 'liberal'. Not as keen on drugs legalisation. Not as sympathetic to complaints privacy being forsaken for security.

What was your view on the IP Bill passed recently in the RL HoC?

I think it's problems have been exaggerated. I don't particularly trust the current government with anything though.

Problems like storing the data of every citizen for 12 months?

At this rate, an actual One-Nation Tory Government would be welcome

I don't think Labour are particularly providing strong opposition which is letting the Tories get away with a lot more than they should be.

I don't see what's inherently wrong with that. Who does it hurt? I'd much rather be protected from terrorism, especially given the times we live in. Also I'm given to understand that some of the measures actually protect private data.

That is a great shame.

It's companies that will be storing people's data - if that company then gets hit by a cyber attack, that's a hell of a lot of data.

Well that is certainly true. I remember a service provider was hacked quite recently. But the information wouldn't be any more sensitive than what those companies already store. Unless you value your search history more than your bank details. And besides, that's an argument of practicality not ideology. The nitty gritty of the bill could be squabbled over until the cows come home - I thought you were asking me to measure my ideology. Would you support the storing of said data if it was impossible for it to be stolen?

Perhaps they are, I'm not particularly familiar with them. But the government argued that they were not. In my mind it's virtually a much more minor issue than it might be to those who proudly identify as 'liberals'.
