shows how ignorant u are, How about the christians in africa that sew a girls vagina or cut her clitoris.. is that representative of all christians in the world? KKK is in the name of christianity, all christian countries must be so bad. thats only to name a few examples of things done by christians.
Christianity must then be 'attacked at every opportunity and loudly without mercy' blabla.. sad..

So we have

1) personal attack

2) whataboutery

3) confusion about Islam the ideology and muslims

Not a good start really

Because some on the left act as if muslims = brown people.

I don't think many do. I think you are confusing it with the following. They think any criticism of Muslims or any cultural practises from that demographic of people is racist or in some hitting down at an oppresed group of people. Which can result in left wing people somewhat bizarrely defending oppressive conservative religion and labelling anyone who does criticise, even from a left wing position, as a racist or islamophobe. The utmost extreme of this is when people end up essentially supporting what can be considered very right wing groups like ISIS or Hamas.

But then some on the right also act as if left wing defence of Muslims from persecution is nothing but defence of Islamism or groups like Hamas or ISIS. They are two sides of the same coin.

The problem is the world is complicated. Left wing thought is often about striving for egalitarianism and breaking down social hierarchies. But what do you do when their exist multiple hierarchies that overlap and conflict? So Muslims face abuse on the streets. But Islamic culture, like all religion, is very capable of being hierarchial. It is very patriarchal for example. So you get feminists defending Muslim women being harassed for wearing viels, even though veils are the result of patriarchal religion. When I see a Muslim woman wearing a face scarf I see an oppressed woman. But then I don't think the state should be aloud to dictate what people wear and there is always the chance I am wrong. So what do I do? One the one hand I want to foster internal dissidence of women in the Muslim communities, like what has happened and is still happening in Christianity but then I also want to defend their right to wear what they like. It's complicated.

Is it because you're brown? If so it's partly due to certain people on the left turning Islam into a racial thing. Because they often equate Islamophobia with racism, some people have got mixed up and think that Muslims = brown people.

That's not how racialisation works
Original post by Dima-Blackburn
Of course it's racist, you absolute cretin. Something tells me you're not familiar with critical race theory. Look up "racialisation". Non-Muslim communities that fit the racialised profile for "Muslims" (brown skin, beards, turbans, etc) are frequently targeted in hate crimes motivated by anti-Muslim sentiments.

Shouldn't have to, there isn't anything wrong with being a Muslim, I shouldn't even have to spell that out. I'm not religious but I'd have whispered God is Great, or Allahu Akhtar, just to ruin her day even more. :u:

Although it's racist to just call you a Muslim, I can see why people are saying stuff like that, due to the current crisis and recent attacks.

does that make it alright to say things like that though?

all attacks on Islam must come with a prison sentence swiftly

I think the defunct British Union of Fascists may be able to introduce the appropriate legislation for you in Parliament as soon as they get an MP. Hang in there. :h:

Admittedly such attacks are not as prevalent in the UK, but harassment remains a common issue. When we talk about racism, we tend to overlook how much stress (including the stress of anticipating racism) and trauma it can cause: http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2013/03/how-racism-is-bad-for-our-bodies/273911/

Old/middle generation are all the same. My granddad had his car window opened and said normally, " Oi look at that n*gg** there with those big bold eyes ", I tried not to laugh but was unexpected.. old Britain is old... new generation is completly different so just ignore it they'll be gone in 20 years time (old)

It's really hard to imagine all those dirty football chavs that bullied ethnic minorities in the 70's and 80's now look like innocent old people.

It is said in the religious scripture that killing is wrong
except for :

apostates, adulterers, homosexuals
"those who fight against Allah and his Messenger"
"those who spread corruption in the land"
Christians and Jews who refuse to convert or to pay jizyah
male war prisoners
"a life for a life"

etc etc

However : Islam is one thing, Muslims another

it is deeply wrong to discriminate Muslims. Everyone is responsible for his/her actions exclusively. There is no such thing as "collective guilt" in our country

Its culture and the way they was born. Its like how gays are hated in Egypt, cultural thank to the British Empire.

Try to ignore the older generation they have seen their country change beyond recognition after all. Their fathers were probably officers or colonial administrators in India now they feel they are being colonised by Browns rather than vice versa

Yea my grandma said that it used to be very rare that you saw ablackman in the UK I dont think she ever adjusted to it. My parents are similar and even some people in their 20's.

Having said this she wouldnt blurt out unneccasary comments like in the op she didnt know the guy and he could be the nicest man on earth for all the old woman knew. I think op should have said something no reason to take that.

It just seems like you are exaggerating the issue a little bit. 76 'Islamophobic offences' in a week is hardly 'frequent'. It also begs the question as to what actually qualifies as an 'Islamophobic offence'.

So? I don't care, they're Muslims who like to kill Westerners.

I doubt the families of the bombing victims care if they were 'true muslims' or not.
lol anyone gonna let this guy know that we've been bombing innocent muslims for a good few decades?

How absurd. Even one such incident is too many; I bet you wouldn't describe the cited rate as "hardly frequent" if it was the way around

What qualifies as an Islamiphobic offense is self-evident.

In a city of nearly 9,000,000 people, 76 'hate-crime' offences in a week is not frequent.
