Cartoons and Comics HELP

Hi guys! I am applying for a range of courses-You may also have found my creative writing post.

At first this course was my first choice, and I was very happy with the students and staff when I went-I could tell I'd fit right in! However, when I spoke to an ex-student I'd found, they said not a lot of people take the course seriously and this worries me, as I do want to go but my future is more likely to be longer than the time I will be on the course and enjoying it!

Does anyone know the employment routes from this course and the ones people have gone on at the moment from this course?

I also applied for Glyndwr, which is very similar (it's an illustration graphic novel course) if anyone knows how to compare these two that'd be great! As I am stuck. Staffordshire is WAY more convenient for me, but I'd like to know that the course is definitely right for me.

Hey, I noticed this here! I also applied for that course and for some time it was my first choice (But similar reasons turned me against it) still I went for an interview and my friend is currently a first year on the course so hopefully i can help you here

As Glyndwr is smaller, you get more tutor contact time and it becomes very personal to you, however Stafford is probably the richer in funding- its quite modern and takes students to comic con in new york and all sorts (Though you still go to prestigious festivals at Glyndwr, there more spread between the three paths). Also, Glyndwr seems harder to get into (I applied for video games at Staffordshire as well and they gave me a conditional offer straight away) and from what i've gathered talking to a student in her third year at Glyndwr, people don't get away with messing around on the course.

From what they teach you at Stafford it looks like you'd be able to get into illustration as a freelance illustrator, work as a character designer/visual developer etc. and hopefully get you set straight onto working in comics if you so desired.

the only thing that made me worry about staffordshire was the title of the course (probably stupid but still). Having a BA in comic arts could either show you're very very determined and get you snapped up at Marvel, or appear to be a bit of a lame course depending on the client?

Hi I completely get you: Cartoons and Comics doesn't sound the most...Educational, couldn't they have named it Graphic Novels?!? And thank you for the response, it really helps me with the work experience stuff, with Wales it's mostly the distance and lack of work experience (I discussed that you don't get any there with my interviewer) this is so hard!! But thank you SO much

What were your reasons for Glyndwr over Staffordshire? Everything above ?

Honestly If they named it graphic novels it would have been a harder choice (Lol). teeside had a course that was like Comics, Graphic Novels and Sequential Art and that seemed awfully similar just a little more professional sounding?

Everything above and I like that Glyndwr is smaller, and It does both the specialisms i want to get into c: I do get the apprehension about wales being far :/ It's a solid 3+ hour journey if all trains run on time and no delays on the way ;__;

That's infuriating!! I would've applied there if I'd known ;__; but I couldn't find it on what uni (probably bc I put comic instead of comics or something) and what specialisms would you like to get into? </3 I come from london and its almost the same train wise, but its still a five hour ish car ride otl
