History of Art Applicants 2015/16!!

So I was talking to the head curator of the Dulwich Picture Gallery asking for advice, and surprisingly they said definitely go to UCL over the Courtauld! I was also talking to a PhD student at the Courtauld who adid his masters at UCL and he told me that Courtauld BA is largely considered a "joke" and a "finishing school", and so to pick UCL instead as it's better "hands down". This has definitely swayed where I'll be firming, so if your still trying to decide perhaps this will help you!

Well this is awkward... I haven't been accepted to UCL yet so I have no choice!

Thanks, that's really interesting. I think the main thing that's swinging me back to UCL, is whether a degree from the Courtauld would fare well outside of the art world as well. Although a job in a gallery would be a dream, I don't want to limit myself to that just yet. I guess the Courtauld is always going to be there if I ever wanted to do a masters!
Does anyone know when the UCL History of Art offer holders open day is going to be held?
Hi everyone, just read all of the conversation that's been ongoing across the thread over the last few weeks and a giant CONGRATS to all of you fabulous people for getting into the Courtauld! I'm ecstatic for you all. I went to a York visit day over the weekend- I liked the city but wasn't fussed on the campus, although the course looks brilliant which is what's important. Still not sure if I'll firm it though. I know that it's stupid, but my heart just hasn't really been in it since Cambridge rejected me, I don't really know what to do with myself.

If you're unsure you should just email UCL, I'm sure they would be happy to help you.

Just out of curiousity, why waste taxpayers money on such a useless degree?

Just out of curiosity, why waste our time with such a useless, negative and stupid question?
HI VENETIA I'M SO HAPPY YOU'RE BACK!! (sorry for the over enthusiasm)
It's on the 23rd, you need to email them and let them know your going though, hope this helps.

Hello, has everyone on here heard back from UCL already? Also, does anyone know if UCL have rejected anybody who they asked to do a questionnaire? Sorry for all the questions! I have an offer from the Courtauld and I think I want to firm it but I don't want to make my mind up until UCL have got back to me! Does anyone know when that might be?
You're in exactly the same position as me- I handed in the questionnaire on the same day I did the Courtauld interview - Feb 12th, and UCL still haven't got back, whereas Courtauld accepted me :L

Not sure - I applied for both too but withdrew from UCL before I heard back once I'd got the Courtauld offer. People may be saying that it's a better course but honestly I think to go for UCL instead seems a little mad. That said I know I want to go on to specialise in the art world and already have contacts so I guess there's that, it really depends.. That was essentially a really long winded don't know, sorry!! X

the current director the national gallery, Gabrielle finaldi, did his degree at the Courtauld.I'm not too sure whether he would agree that the Courtauld was a 'joke' and a 'finishing school'.
Hi! I got offers from St. Andrews, Warwick, and UCL. Which do you think I should choose?

Go for UCL - London is much more interesting than Warwick or St Andrews, that being said London is not for everyone. I would say it has less of a student vibe than Warwick or St. Andrews, so it really depends on what kind of experience you want. Course wise all 3 are of equal standing.

Has anyone here not got a reply from UCL about their application? Last I heard from them was late December.
That is strange! Maybe ring them up tomorrow to chase them up on where your application is

Yeah, I've not heard from them since early February :frown:
Already emailed them earlier last week, all I got was a very vague reply that they were processing my application and that all applicants will know by the 31st March. I assume that those who are left will be informed after Easter weekend, slightly annoying as it means I haven't been able to organise my student accommodation.
