What is the name of y=ax^b function?

As a function of x it is a polynomial, assuming a and b are constants, and also assuming b is a natural number. (In fact it is a monomial, that is a polynomial with one term.)

If b can be any real number then I'm not aware of a generic name for the function. That's because things like $x^{\frac{1}{2}}$ are not polynomials, it is the square root function.
