NHS Scientist Training Programme 2016 applicants!

Not totally true! Health Education England still pays for part of the post, but the amount reduces year on year. Luckily, the fact that the trainee is in-service means they are already being paid. The only problem is if the department needs to back-fill the post for the time the trainee is away at uni or in placements (most of the first year).

right i dont have a masters .. just in my third year but the statistics show that undergrads get in ..i didnt realise a masters was so necessary.. I have as much people and lab experience possible for me at this stage but i guess it isnt enough.. i need to have more..
I answered the questions (i thought) bang on, about how each aspect of the nhs values i already put into use etc and how i would utilise them relevantly in the NHS etc.. onwards and upwards! best of luck to u
cheers!

I would say it is because you have not finished your degree, whereas more people who applied for your specialisms have got theirs already. A MSc is part of the training, so not necessary to get in, but if more people have better qualifications, then they will get shortlisted ahead of you. Sounds like you just need to get a good degree result and apply next year.

well my top 5 choices are somewhat commutable, within an hour to hour and a half drive or so. I'm kind of just hoping i'll be lucky enough to get one of those if i manage to get through the interview!!

if i get offered something further afield i think i'll have to play the "cross that bridge when we come to it" game too! its a tough one, career vs life and all!

Ha, the same as me! It's funny how this card is pulled out not when I moved to Ireland for a few months, but the possibility of moving back to the UK which isn't London (if I get the post!).

How's everyone's preparation going? I feel like I'm very short of time...
Yep

Ah nice! what's your background? Need to check out the competition haha

I feel like I have the time I just don't know what to look at or how to prep! Under 2 weeks now though ahhhhhh

Congrats about the job! Is it something clinical or pure research? Going back I should have done biomedical degree at least I would still have options other than STP to get into NHS.

Btw. anyone else got an interview in microbiology? If I get the job I would like to get placement in London but I guess this one will be quite popular.. :/

Hi, I have an interview for Microbiology too!

Congrats How are you feeling about the interview?

I also would like the London placement, but I bet it will be the most popular. It would be a 5 minute walk from where I live at the moment!
Lol. Well I'm a Gemini, my favourite colour's blue (used to be purple) and I recently turned vegan. Hope that helps

Haha giving a lot away there!

Not great, to be honest. I have no NHS experience whatsoever and I can't remember anything from my microbiology undergrad courses anymore. And the description of the interview stations is so vague that I feel like they might ask us almost anything..

I agree - it's so hard to prepare. I am desperately searching past forums for any tips and hints. Good luck

That's not very comforting! Hopefully doesn't happen to anyone this year.

I know!!! But I think it was more a reflection on the candidate than the actual interview!! My friend said she actually quite enjoyed hers!!

Fair enough, I don't think I've ever enjoyed an interview haha...maybe the NHS will change that
I'm an undergraduate in my final year, and have been offered an interview for Haematology  Although haven't studied it in ages and am so unsure what to try and focus on for interview prep!

I'm presuming NHS values is quite straight forward? read lots NHS websites, and really know the values and maybe examples of how you fit them? Does anyone know if more is required for this stage?

The basic science skills seems like it could be anything? and I have no idea how to prep for that? maybe go over some of the basic maths involved in dilutions?

Leadership skills- I imagine this transferable from most other interviews and there seems to be quite a lot on-line for this sort of interview question? Does anyone know anything that NHS is particularly interested in for leadership skills?

And then specific Haematology questions I have just been cramming all the basics. Basic principles and clinical skills?

If anyone has any advice, or where I can find any useful information I would be soooo grateful!
has anybody else got an interview for biochem on the 11th April?
Hows everyones preperation going?
