Can I go to the toilet during my driving test?

I think if you explain your condition to the examiner before you start your test then they will be understanding and might let you go.

Okay this is probably a weird question but also a serious one. I have symptoms of IBS- Irritable bowel syndrome- it's basically a condition where you need to go to the toilet quite often, and there is often immense pressure on the bowels and you can either be constipated or have diarrhoea and bloating. Well you get the image- if unsure Google search it on the NHS website- apparently its really common.

anyway back to my question- I want to know if I was to go on a driving test and I needed the toilet will the examiner let me go and not fail me for my test? Even sometimes going to the toilet normally puts a lot of pressure on the bowels.

Thank you for reading- please do not post any rude or mean comments- this is a serious question. Thanks. Please respect each other and this post.

Id speak to your instructor to see what thy say- they will have more knowledge of if they are likely to or not.
Can you get a doctors note or anything? If you can get a doctors note there might be a better chance of them letting you go during the test.
Its a basic human right as much as it is a basic human function. Stopping and going to a public toilet will give your examiner an opportunity to test you on parking maneuvers anyway.
I would contact the DVSA, who are the government organisation that look after driving tests.

"DVSA driving test booking support
[email protected]
Telephone: 0300 200 1122
Monday to Friday, 8am to midday"

Although the information here doesn't specifically cover your condition it seems they should be able to accomodate you as long as you tell them in advance.

The test is only 40 minutes, so make sure you go in the test centre before you start and you may be ok.

There may not be a public toilet nearby for you to stop at.
contact a couple of test centers if you think 40 minutes may be too long and see if they can accommodate you with a route which would have public toilets somewhere in case of emergency

I'm pretty sure they can make special allowances for a case like this.

Interesting question, let us know what the outcome of this is!

Also, just to reassure you, the driving test goes super quick, you're so focused on driving you'll probably forget about needing to go to the loo.

Special allowances? Stopping the car next to a public bogs is a special allowance? If he needs a number 1 then he wont even need a public bog, just a remote bit of growth would do. Its not like he would need a specialist low gravity moon lander type toilet in the trunk or a bumper dumper.

Yep.

I'm sure if he asks they will be able to sort something out.

Can't be the first person...

Thank you guys for the reply- I was really anxious and scared about asking this question, I will talk to my instructor and ask the test centre. Has anyone else faced or been in such a situation? Or for example getting nervous that you get butterflies? I never get nervous as much but thinking about the test is ... yes though. 40 minutes is quite short. I wish you all the best of luck for those who are doing their driving right now.

I needed the toilet in a test once, but I don't (think I) have IBS so I managed to hold fire
OP, I suffer with IBS and this was also a worry for me when I took my test as nervousness flares it up. I used the toilet at the test centre as soon as I got there as we got there 10 minutes early and as soon as I'd finished my test. The issue of needing to go to the toilet wasn't an issue while I was taking my test as I'd gone immediately before and to be honest, any IBS related cramps and butterflies were put to the back of my mind as I was too busy concentrating! I did manage to pass first time too
It's probably a good idea to check with the test centre they have a toilet there and if you can stop though.

Good luck!
