There will always be a matchings and alternating paths question, just as there will always be a Dijkstra question, a Chinese Piostman question, a Linear Programming question.... Critical path is a bit more variable - you may or may not have to draw a network from a precedence table and/or do scheduling.

Which of the early algorithms are on the paper is the only unknown quantity really.

True tbh, last year saw binary, quick sort and bubble! Bin packing is easy tbh, anyway avodigin flow charts would be most preferred but not really fussed tbh.

How are people finding this module? I'll probably get cracking with it in the Easter holidays. Anything difficult?

The algorithms are straightforward, but there are parts I find tricky, such as scheduling without a Gantt chart and explaining the differences in route inspection routes.

Scheduling and dummies are the two main difficult bits. Get as much practice in as you can for everything - it's one of the most time consuming exams because you have to be oh so careful and double check everything that you've done. I was working for the full 1h30  (I usually had 5 or 10 minutes spare to double check things for most exams)
Can anyone explain question 4d on this paper please https://d0247e65b1a6ead8e6286cd43803e643462f2b31.googledrive.com/host/0B1ZiqBksUHNYNlBRQkZFLXdQS0E/June%202014%20(R)%20QP%20-%20D1%20Edexcel.pdf I can't see where the mark scheme got the 2 multiplied by 119 from?
Thanks

They are now having a 2 second pause between each pair of scanners. With 120 scanners, there are 119 gaps in between them (think fence posts and fence panels).

I'd like to think that the D in D1 stands for 'different' (as in it's not like the other maths modules, difficult in its own way but not particularly difficult overall) the content isn't hard, just requires a lot of care, attention, and not slipping up in the exam. Overall it's not difficult

Hey guys could someone help me with this question from the book Ex 3D Q5

Question: http://prntscr.com/al8ilv
Solution: http://prntscr.com/al8lfr

I was able to do part (a) and part (b) okay, but I'm not really sure what to do in part (c) finding the shortest from A to H, without going through CE. I was trying trial and error but that didnt really work any other ideas on how to do it? Solution bank didnt really help

Hi, from what year do the past papers follow the current spec for the D1 2016 exam?

I think you just have to inspect for the shortest route. Any other ideas @SeanFM ?
Hi, for question 2 part (c) of the January 2006 paper can you start at any vertex for the route inspection?

Here is the link to the paper :

A thread to discuss the 2016 D1 AS Exam!

Thanks for making this thread OP! I've added it to the Exam Directory Thread which you can find here. Use that thread to find discussions on your other exam papers, and do let me know if you spot any that aren't on the list. Good luck with this exam! :h:
Came close to starting this module the other day...

I read the first page then I quit. :ashamed2:
