Ok so, via the mark scheme, it is saying, that when B is at rest, the frictional force on A + weight of B + tension acting on B = initial E.P.E?

but where is 2.04 from in the MS? http://filestore.aqa.org.uk/subjects/AQA-MM2B-W-MS-JUN13.PDF

I am a little confused.

The extension in the spring was 2.5, from the first part, remember? Hence, when B is at rest, the extension is 2.5 - 0.46 - x where x is the distance B moves upwards.
