The Student Room Group

Loneliness requires persistence.

There is something beautifully eerie, yet devastatingly precious about one being in solitude and confinement. The trees hauntingly overlook the world that has been finely carved by madness and drowned in despair, for they have witnessed moments that have defined their tragic existence. They can long to escape, but the only pathway that promises their chance of liberty is one that would, in their mind, summon their depreciation. All is but lost.

Amid the trees, there is always the subtle glimmer projected by the moon that fights its way into the forest despite being deeply unwelcome. It once battled for independence, but saw its opportunities seized by the shade that entombed its last breath, its acquiescence now imprisonment. As the wind drags itself between the trees, it screams. It yearns to belong; it cries a silence that deafens those who attempt to receive. But its silent echoes remain unheard, thus its struggles remain whilst its optimism depletes. How is it possible for those deprived from sight to be equal to those who strive for acknowledgement?

The decomposing leaves struggle for eternal peace. Their constant presence is manipulative and misleading, yet they have surrendered to the destruction inflicted by the unforgiving environment. They want to be left alone; they want to be free from the nostalgia luring them into a false sense of security. The once hopeful inhabitants, they run, they run. With each disillusioned footstep brings greater confusion. The decaying and gaunt trees continue to gnaw at their final drop of hope, alas, it is useless to escape. This is a place of annihilation.

Grey, brown, and black, the colours of depression, the colours of death.

The red cloth entwined in the archaic branches moves with the entrapped, ethereal wind. It strives for freedom, for its freedom that once defined it, that gave its presence a purpose, was sacred to its felicity. To persevere is to succeed, to persevere is to reject your unwanted fate. Its rhythmic, repetitive movement reflects the insanity brutally enforced upon it. But it does not freeze, it does not comply. It writhes progressively, persistently, until just one desperate, perhaps terrified, thread remains. A wave of wind hesitantly releases the thread from this unearthly burden. It is free, an entity, for it did not surrender to the darkened presence.

Loneliness cannot be fought without happiness and content, and freedom cannot be brought to those who give in to their destructive surroundings.

Loneliness requires persistence.
