how to order a drink at a bar?

I don't go out much, don't have any friends and have to attend social events in bars.

How would I order a drink at a bar?

I was thinking of saying to the bartender "do you do any non alcoholic drinks"?

but I thought this was being too vague

that is fine... the bartender will be able to show you what is available.
"Can I have a drink"
Ask if they have a list of mocktails? Or just ask for a regular soft drink like coke or orange juice.

What would you recommend? or what's the best non-alcoholic drink you have?

- "Two pints of lager and a packet of pork scratchins please chief"
- "Oh, and a peperoni and a scotch egg"
- "Cheers. What's the damage john?"

It's that simple.

Every bar will have Coke, Diet Coke, Lemonade and Soda water on a pump and then cordials - plus a range of bottled stuff like J2O, Ginger Ale, Orange juice, possibly bottled Coke and Fanta. As you're waiting to be served at the bar, use your eyes to scan what's in the fridges behind the bar ... then you can make a decision. Simples.

Yes, and if its 10 o clock on a Saturday night and the queue is three deep at the bar, the bartender will probably feel like throttling you. Open questions are nice when the bar is quiet though.
