Is UCL the most overrated university?

My cousin told me that UCL was the most overrated uni in the Uk. Do you agree with that?

No, UCL is actually underrated - many of its departments are world leading and yet people always say LSE and Imperial are better.

Come on, it deserves its status & is well established around the world. There's a ucl in Qatar, Australia etc...
For neuroscience, it's the leading university in Europe, but it definitely deserves its ranking
@Hodor_van_Groot what do you think?
It's overrated. If it wasn't in London, it would be looked down upon.

Not at all, it's a world leading British institution of academic excellence that we should be proud of. It performs excellently in almost all international rankings, be that for research quality, reputation, or in general.

Durham is most the overrated university in the UK imo, it's a **** imitation of Oxbridge, almost as though it was designed for the Oxbridge rejects that constitute the bulk of its population.

NB. I do not attend UCL and have no ties to it whatsoever.

No, I think it deserves its standing.

Places like Warwick and Bristol are overrated though.

Imperial is better than UCL in the vast majority of its subjects that it offers so in that way, yes it is.

Prove it.

Honestly, go on the CUG rankings, the graduate salaries, the difficulties of the courses, the lab facilities, research 4* rating, bursary scheme, reputation, entry standards... and obviously I can't speak for every single subject at Imperial.

I don't know what you use to classify how good a university is but when many people say that a course is better, it often means that they have a 'higher ranking' so in that respect I don't see why it confused you.

Is it true that is the 2nd best university in the world for Neuroscience?

This is not proof.

In terms of strength of research, heck yeah

What do you want as proof then? I'm not going to put up URLs of every single finding on the internet for every single measure of how good a university is.

You can try Googling it all for yourself...Now, social life is something that's better at UCL and if you value social life a lot then go for it.

Your initial confusion was at why people say LSE/Imperial are better; they're also more competitive and more highly ranked on most subjects.

This one
TSR is generally quite spiteful of UCL

CUG rankings (in fact pretty much any arbitrary ranking), graduate salaries, bursary schemes and entry requirements are not relevant.

Where is your evidence that Imperial's degrees are more difficult? Only someone who has studied the same degree at both UCL and Imperial is qualified to comment on which is harder - have you studied at both universities? I don't know anything about lab facilities; they may or may not be better at Imperial but I don't think it really affects undergraduates even if they are better.

I don't think you can compare the reputation of a specialist university which only offers a limited number of subjects with a multi faculty university which excels not just in the sciences, but in the humanities and social sciences as well. FYI UCL has more prestigious and world famous departments than Imperial. The Institute of Education, the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, the Slade School of Fine Art, the Institute of Archaeology, the Bartlett, the School of Pharmacy, Med School, Law School, as well as the departments of Dutch, English, Scandinavian Studies, Hebrew and Jewish Studies, Life Sciences, Neuroscience, Space and Climate Physics, Anthropology, History, History of Art and Science and Technology Studies all enjoy equally good reputations as anything Imperial has, and many of them are famous around the world.

Why wouldn't you prefer great facilities?...It's providing you the best equipment for what you're studying.

I can obviously only comment on my subject but Maths past papers at UCL are so much easier than Imperial's let alone the course structure. Imperial also has better connections to industry, especially for subjects like Computing and Engineering. UCL's worst department is well known to be Engineering which Imperial is famous for...
Only on TSR do people care about things like this.
