Should really be in the Study Help section, but I'll bite.

It's due to a difference in osmolarity (Osm/L), which takes into account the dissociation of a compound into its constituent ions. NaCl, dissociates into Na+ and Cl- when dissolving in water. Therefore, when 1M of NaCl dissolves in water, it has an osmolarity of 2M. Glucose cannot further dissociate in a solution. Thus, 1M of glucose has an osmolarity of 1M in water.
