Has anyone on the reserve list for genomics heard anything this week yet?

:K:

Hey, I was on the reserve list for genomics but I was contacted by email a couple of weeks ago offering me an interview.
Wish you all the best and fingers crossed I'll see you there!

Ahh well done! You must have been right near the top of the reserves then!

I fear it's too late for the rest of us...

Had my interview today, I feel like 2 of the stations went really well but I totally messed up the specialism specific one! I spent weeks revising but they didn't ask about anything I covered! :frown:
Anyway best of luck to those who still have interviews, I think I will be reapplying next year by the looks of it!

Oh no!! I'm worried about that happening to me too, feel like I could handle some questions ok, but it is the unknown I'm scared of!!! You never know the score is averaged, so if 2 stations went well, you could still be ok, and you also get marks for your communication. Which were the 2 you think went ok? I've only really prepped for the specialist one so am a bit nervous something difficult might come up either in leadership or NHS values!!

How is it going preparing for genetics and cardiac science? They're quite different from each other, are you focusing most on one or balancing your time between both?

I felt exactly the same - general science and leadership I felt went ok, values and behaviours I'm 50:50 on , but it was the specialism specific station that I found hardest - I'd prepared loads too and nothing I ever thought would come up did!

Just solely focused on genetics so far, have about a week and a half after that until cardiac so thought it was probably for the best. Yeah I guess it would probably be easier if I was going for say genetic counselling instead of cardiac, but the heart wants what the heart wants !!!!!

hahaha fair enough. You're lucky to have time in between your interviews, it wasn't the case for me unfortunately!!

I think leadership and nhs values I actually found pretty easy! I wouldn't worry too much! They're also the stations I feel you have the opportunity to discuss your experience and show more personality.
The most frustrating thing for me with the specialist specific one was that I knew I had heard of some of the things they were asking me about as I covered them during my degree, but I just couldn't remember them! And they weren't at all the sort of thing I expected I come up :frown:
I didn't know they average your score? I heard that you have to get a minimum score on each station to be considered? (If that's the case, I'm screwed!)

I think the score is averaged, and if BOTH assessors give you the lowest mark for one station then yeah I think you might be right they won't progress you, but fingers crossed you'll be alright !!
If you score a 2 on any station you won't be considered I think. Don't worry, I thought a couple of stations went terribly last year but still got an OK score and was on the reserve list after interview!
Hey guys,
What are you focusing on for the values and behaviours interview? I'm worried they're gonna ask for examples of when I have done/shown this that and the other and I wont be able to think of anything on the spot. It's impossible to prepare an example story for anything they could ask!

Definitely not! It's almost a month as they told us 9th-11th may. Although I've pretty much accepted that I'm not going to get a place.
So just heading to Birmingham and the train ride has got me thinking/worrying! I kind of though that as genomics was just the new name for genetics that it would still be pretty much the same. But am now worried that it will actually be all about new genetic techniques like sequencing and the vast majority of prep I've done is essentially pointless. Just wondered what others thoughts were - do you think genetics = genomics, or is genomics a new completely separate entity??? Maybe I'm just overthinking!!

For stuff like this I think it is usually not worth trying to come up with answers as such. As you say you can't come up with examples for everything and there is no way to know exactly what they'll ask. I think it is better to think of situations which you could mould to different examples so if you've ever organised something it shows good organisation, communication, maybe teamwork etc. That way you are kind of making the answers up in the spot but you have a bit of a "backbone" to tell it from!
Well at least it's done, could have gone a lot better, but I guess it could have been worse too!!!
