The question is for daughter who as usual is very busy. She intends to apply for an Bsc Hons at UWE. I there any essential reading for inclusion in her personal statement recommended? Anyone any knowledge of any public lectures coming up? Help or advice gratefully received.

There's never really any essential reading to be put on the Personal Statement, but greatly helps that you've explored some relevant reading materials and what you've picked up from 'em.

Can't say as I know anything about the curriculum but Forensics is a niche area. I've only read The Basics of Digital Forensics: The Primer for Getting Started in Digital Forensics, but it's been a nice read.

OU has their course - Introduction to computer forensics and investigations
Washington has - Basic Steps in Forensic Analysis of Unix Systems
OU also has (via OpenLearn) - Network Security
