Aerospace Engineering @ Nottingham

This is the last university I've yet to hear from; I'm interested to see how many people have applied seeing as this'll be the first year that Nottingham are teaching the course.

So... Who's applied? :K:

I actually heard to them first, before others (Surrey, loughborough, sheffield, bath)

They seem extremely enthusiastic about the course and I was very impressed with their research facilities.. my only slight concern personally would be the structure of the course and quality of teaching for this new course, because there aren't any reviews/stats from ex-students.

Just my opinion!

I understand. It's for that reason that I'm pretty adamant about putting them as my firm. Even though they teach mechanical engineering and are pretty good at it, I'm planning to pick a firm offer at somewhere that's had the actual course for a long time, because when it comes to specialised aerospace modules in the later years, they're proven.

So Nottingham will probably be my insurance choice- if I get an offer, that is...

sorry for asking but what jobs can you get with aerospace eng ? I was thinking of probs doing mech eng as it has so many different fields you can go into but aero sounds more interesting. plus are my a-levels sufficient for the degree maths , ft maths and physics ?

Totally agree with your reasoning, its the same case for me tbh.... Where else have you applied?

Usually mechanical, civil and aerospace engineering diverge in terms of course content during second year; sure enough Mech Eng has more options for people that want to specialise in other modules, but overall these fields have the same essential base knowledge... I reckon that won't stop you from getting a mechanical engineering job if you're an aerospace graduate, and vice versa.

I also did those three A levels (+ computing). Maths and physics are mandatory prerequisites, and further maths is recommended for admission to certain universities (e.g. Imperial and Bath). That A level will apparently have you covered for most of the first semester.

Basically, do what you find the most interesting. You won't burn out so easily!

Leeds (offer), Sheffield (rejected), Brunel (rejected) and Queen Mary (withdrew). I finished sixth form last year and now I'm doing astrophysics at university. Big mistake on my part, so now I'm transferring to the course that I'd actually seem to enjoy. Indecisiveness is dangerous...

Did anyone who firmed this course yet at Nottingham get like this Air Nottingham plane ticket type thing kinda cringe ? (Probably had to make sure you selected that you wanted post from them on UCAS to receive this obviously too).

I got a a conditional offer very quickly, and they also sent that plane ticket thing, which I found really cute :smile: But I rejected them, because the course is not accredited yet.. I have put Surrey as my firm choice, and Swansea as my insurance choice, and I'm really happy with both universities. Good luck! :smile:

Hey, I am interested in applying to Nottingham University, but I’m worried that it might have good acedemic compared to a uni that has been doing aerospace for a longer time

Overall I am keen on putting down Nottingham as one of my five choices but have yet to do so largely due to the fact that it is a relatively new course at the uni. Are the facilities well-equipped? Anything that they lack compared to other unis? It seems by 2020 they have been accredited by the RAeS and the IMechE, which is rather impressive. Honest input would be much appreciated :biggrin:
