Court stops circumcision.

Glad to see the courts exercising some common sense and thinking of the welfare of children rather than religious privilege.
This should always be the case, even if both parents agree.

Good.
Those who perform genitals mutilation on either boys or girls should be punished.
However, I wonder if the court would give the similar verdict if the father would be Jewish :s-smilie:
Good Common sense has prevailed in this one case at least.
Excellent news. Brilliant to see common sense triumph over religious superstition for once.
Good to hear. Such practices should have no place in modern society.

Agree. I fail to see why it is fundamentally any different to FGM.

At least we don't have the obscene situation that prevails in the US, where male circumcision is perpetuated by the medical profession as an easy, billion dollar business, with new customers arriving every day!

However, I wonder if the court would give the similar verdict if the father would be Jewish :s-smilie:
Possibly not, but I get the feeling that attitudes towards religious privilege are changing, with the whole Islam business acting as a catalyst.

But it is tradition.
Muslims and jews traditionally circumcise their male children, because their gods demand it. Although it has always puzzled me why they didn't design us without one in the first place, and save babies and children all that pain and discomfort (not to mention deaths).

Obviously it is tradition. But tradition is often used as an argument to do it.
