My Road to A* everywhere

Is 6 hours per day enough (on a weekend) and 3 hours on a school night?

Also aiming for all A*s, igcse

Do you think its really important to do all past papers so far (2011-2015) or just some/most of them

And you don't have to go in for the whole of may unless you have an exam?! I wish my school did that but we don't get study leave until we have done all but about 4 exams

Well it's still pretty bad that we don't even get a study leave before the exams start - that's what all the other international schools I have friends in are doing! The one in Monaco let their students have a study leave 2 weeks ago already! And they don't have to show up for class in may either, just like us. We have little time to revise, and our grades are solely dependent on our exams, which is kind of terrifying.

But I'm coping pretty well, today I didn't even do that much since I try to chill the last week of school

To be honest, it's not about how long you study but how well you take in information. I used to do 6 hours each day on a weekend, but now I find that it is much better if I do less hours with more focus. If you can work for 6 hours and not burn out then by all means go for it. Just make sure there is time for everything else and you are actually taking in the information.

As for past papers, do as many as you can as long as you can just get an idea of how examiners mark. You don't have to do every single one but the more the better.

I'm burned out 😭 in the Easter I was doing a lot- sometimes 10 hours a day and now I've just been so tired that I've only done about 3-4 hours all weekend... Exams are sooo close! How do I fix myself!?:O😅

School bits:
Hi Everyone,

I'm in year 11 so I will be sitting my GCSEs in less than 100 days (eek). I also had mocks on the 22nd Feb so keeping this thread made sure I kept up with my revision. At the moment my targets and grades are:

(WJEC) English Language: A*
(WJEC) English Literature: A*
(Edexcel) Maths: A*
(OCR Gateway B) Biology: A*
(OCR Gateway B) Chemistry: A*
(OCR Gateway B) Physics: A*
(AQA) German: A*
(OCR Modern) History: A*
(AQA) Geography: A*
(OCR National) ICT: A*

Some of you may look at this and wonder how I can improve, but I set really high standards and in some of my mocks I have been getting 84/85 and scores like that, so I am working towards getting as high a mark as possible, and not just securing the grade.

Hopefully, if I can get the grades, I want to go on to college and study Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Geology.

Personal bits:
If you want a bit of background I've always been quite good academically (though I genuinely hate to admit it) but I believe it is down to the fact that I have severe Atopic Eczema (that the specialist said was the worst in 30 years) and because of this, I have found studying to be a worthy distraction. I also can't see out of my left eye which makes life interesting but I like it that way. If I can work hard enough, and get into University, I will be the first person in my family to do so, and considering my parents have barely any qualifications, this is definitely something I aspire to.

A few last words:
I am open to any advice or constructive criticism and I am happy to help anyone too.

I've done about 12 overall - so 6 each day (ish) and I have started past papers yeah

Yeah, I struggled a lot with English Language too - I got a C in my year 10 mock :/
I'm not sure what it's like at your school, but at mine they really emphasised how large the jump was. To be honest, I haven't found it that difficult - I did an extra AQA Level 2 Certificate in Further Maths which basically meant our class could skip Core 1 and focus on the tougher modules, but that gave me a good impression of what A Levels Maths is like. Further Maths is a bit harder, it largely depends on which modules you take - at our school we do Mechanics 2 which is an A2 module so that's the hardest my long way, but Further Pure 1 and Decision 1 are not that much harder than the standard A level Maths modules. For physics, I'd say that the concepts aren't that hard to grasp - with the exception of quantum physics, they're just an extension of GCSE. However, the actual questions are far harder - whilst GCSE is basically factual recall, at A Level you have to apply quite basic principles in unusual situations, and that's where the difficulty lies. A level maths and especially further maths helps A LOT - often, the physics is harder in maths than it is in actual physics. Chemistry is basically factual recall but with a lot more facts, but I find it way more interesting than GCSE, especially the organic stuff. In terms of workload, you don't get much more homework than at GCSE - free periods mean than I actually have less homework to do at home than last year. However, the big step up is that you're expected to do lots of extra work outside of lessons and it shows if you don't - in the January mock exams, only three people got more than a D in our physics class of twenty! However, I did a similar amount of work to what you're doing now last year, and that quantity is easily enough to do well.
