Transformation of graphs

I'm usually ok with transformation of graphs and thought I'd got this one right when I drew

Firstly, I translated it down 1 and then attempted to stretch it but the actual answer is

. Just wondering if someone knew why the way I did it was wrong? Thanks!

What you've done is this:

Transform 1: translate down by 1 to get g(x)=f(x)1g(x) = f(x) - 1.

Transform 2: stretch by 2 to get h(x)=2g(x)=2f(x)2h(x) = 2g(x) = 2f(x) - 2.

What you need to do is:

Transform 1: stretch by 2 to get: g(x)=2f(x)g(x) = 2f(x)

Transform 2: translate by 1 to get : h(x)=g(x)1=2f(x)1h(x) = g(x) - 1 = 2f(x) - 1.
