You get the first tasks back only to help you complete the last task. There have been previous experiences of students changing their answers from the previous tasks. The examiners typically interview the students who have crossing outs in their first 2 tasks to ask why they done this, since students could simply go home, come back and change their answers. The exam board has the ability to disqualify students who have done this, so I strongly discourage it.

Ok, but if you have a legit reason can you? e.g. something in task 3 which suggests your answer needs changing in order to do a question in task 3? also do they record your answers or something before they give the task back to you? how would they know if you crossed it out in the actual task or the written paper?

Not under any circumstances should you be changing the answers. There won't be anything in task 3 which tells you to change them (they may suggest the correct answer, but it doesn't mean you should change it).

The examiners don't record your answers straight after the first 2 tasks. They will call you in and question you if they believe you crossed out your answers and changed it during your task 3. You will need to have a valid excuse as to why you crossed out certain words or answers in the first 2 tasks. Obviously it's extremely tempting to change a couple of answers you think you got wrong. But the exam board will most likely disqualify you if they see half of your answers in task 1 and 2 have been crossed out and re-written.
