Calcium with excess water equation

What is the ionic equation of the reaction of calcium with an excess of water.
Is it
Ca(s) + 2H2O --> Ca2+ + 2OH- +H2

Hi! I moved this into the chemistry forum for you - you're more likely to get an answer here :h:

why not?
Beacause it forms calcium hydroxide not it split up. so it looks like this: Ca(s) + 2H2O(l) --> Ca(OH)2(aq) + H2(g)

Apart from the missing state symbols it was correct...

Ca(s) + 2H2O(l) --> Ca2+(aq) + 2OH-(aq) +H2(g)

But, why resurrect the dead?
