UCAS Extra 2016 - **FAQ**

Hi, just wondering if you could give me some advice on what I'm best to do! I applied for German and received an unconditional offer from my first choice, Birmingham. However, as I've got further into my A2 course I've realised that it really isn't what I want to do and I've made a mistake! My other A Levels are Biology and Chemistry and I want to pursue a science degree, preferably Biology/Biological Sciences. Am I best to reject my offers and go through extra, as Birmingham have many bio courses available OR do I phone the uni and see if I can switch to a science degree? Only reason I'm unsure is because it's not like I'm switching from Biochemistry to Chemistry for example - but from one extreme to the other. Thank you in advance.

I was unsuccessful for child nursing, as want to work in neonatal but after speaking to some nurses they have told me I can do adult nursing and still work on neonatal, do you think it would be OK to apply for adult nursing? Only thing is my personal statement reflects child any help would be great

You could contact the unis you're interested in and ask if they'll allow you to submit another personal statement. Do you know why you were unsuccessful for child nursing? Is this something you think won't be a problem if you apply via Extra?

It's also worth bearing in mind that unis have to actively withdraw courses from Extra, and nursing is pretty competitive, so you may want to check with the uni(s) you're interested in that there are definitely spaces available before you apply.

Otherwise, you've got nothing to lose by applying.

That's interesting do you know which UNIs still have vacancies?

Can anyone help please? I applied to BU Adult Nursing on the 6th April. I only applied to one other USW, I received a conditional offer. Have I applied through Extra, it says if you have used all 5 options, but I haven't I just applied late?

That's not Extra. That's a normal, but late, application. If courses still have places you will be given full consideration.

Hi guys last year I completed my alevels of BBCD (B in English lit) and this year I've worked full time and applied to uni to study English lit, I've got five offers but don't actually like any of them. Is it worth rejecting them all to apply for extra? My extra choice will be Sheffield Hallam and I've already rang up and was told obviously they can't promise anything but there are spaces available and my UCAS points are above what they ask for. Is it worth the risk?? How good can clearing be?

Has anyone actually applied and received an offer through extra? On the 28th of April i declined all my offers and made an application through extra: i was emailing the university, who told me they had received my application on 3rd of May and would reply very soon, yet i have still heard nothing. I was just wondering typically how long it would take to hear back. I have sort of given up hope of an offer at this stage.

"Very soon" is probably rather more than 3 days... I've no idea how long it normally takes (someone cleverer than me will be along soon, I'm sure) but I wouldn't panic for a few days, or weeks, yet... they have up to 21 days to reply anyway (or longer).
