Feminism for the using material question.. and for the examine one, either domestic division of labour (but not too sure) OR domestic violence... but to be on the safe side i would say revise all just incase you dont want to risk failing.. I havent started revising at all.. Im just going to do essays and learn from them.. Havent got time to be learning from a textbook lol.

My predictions (for the old spec)
UNIT1:
Domestic violence or division of labour
feminist perspective on the family or functionalist perspective on the family
Demography
UNIT2:
Gender differences in educational achievement
Social class differences

Yuck demography

Please dont come up
Is it true that before a exam board change their specifications, they must cover have covered the WHOLE current specification?
Basically, would this mean that anything that is in the current (not new) specification that has not come up previously, must do so this final year?

A classmate said he'd heard it from somewhere and my teacher said it is a possibility.

But with family and education on the old spec...everything has come up before...what hasn't come up?
does anyone know what the grade boundaries are usually like for raw marks?? i can't find them anywhere and it'd be nice to know haha
Hi there everyone
is doing this for the GCSE exams this year, mine is in 10 days!
and has anyone created/obtained a checklist that identifies everything that you need to know for the exams?

I was wondering if there are any predictions for the Education paper??
I've memorised like 109 sociologists and what they say for Education; any predictions for Research Methods in Context?
Would I be stupid to not revise policies for education in as much detail this year because it came up as the big marker last year?

I'm doing the old spec, resitting unit 2

I was planning to do that but now im thinking
1. The spec changed and they added privatisation to policy so it could be a new question on that
3. Might come up as a 10 mark
2. It's AQA so ANYTHING could happen... :teehee:

With sociologists for me personally its just repetition unfortunately..

The formula I use is the Two For, Two Against one (whilst also referring to the extract given constantly for quotes or you will lose marks):

Intro -
Basically, re-word the extract. ALWAYS use quotes from the extract in your intro to make life easier.
State your for and against points in brief:
E.g. Some sociologists argue that the role of education is to contribute to societal consensus....however others (e.g. Marxists/New Right/Feminists) see education as more complex

Para 1 -
Some functionalists argue that education is for:
Role Allocation
or
Specialist Skills
or
Meritocracy
Elaborate. Use a study
e.g. Durkeim believes education helps to equip students with specialist skills

I then evaluate straight away through commenting on:
Date - when was it conducted. Is it outdated?
Can the study be generalised to now?
Is it deterministic
Does it ignore class factors/gender/ethnicity factors.

Then repeat this with the same functionalist ideology for another paragraph.

Your against points need to be a different perspective:
Marxist
Feminist
New Right
and you use the same paragraph formula as before.

Conclusion -
Which one is the one that is most important? Functionalist views or Marxist or Feminist? Why? More up-to-date? Less deterministic?

Thats it!

we haven't learnt that and it isn't in our aqa text books. it has to be on the course we have bee taught.

Ah we must be on two different specs? I'm on the new one where a whole two pages of privatisation has been added to the end of educational policy...
