On my coursework, I've got 70 out of 80 which is an A.
The exam is worth 60% and coursework is worth 40%.
The exam is also out of 80.
Therefore, what mark will I need in order to get
a C:
a B:
an A:
and an A*:
my exam board is AQA

The whole thing is out of 300 UMS. You need.....
270/300 for an A*
240/300 for an A
210/300 for a B
180/300 for a C
150/300 for a D
120/300 for an E
90/300 for an F

You got 70/80 which would be 105 UMS. You would need...
165 UMS for an A* which would be 58/80 on the exam
135 UMS for an A which would be 48/80 on the exam
105 UMS for a B which would be 40/80 on the exam
75 UMS for a C which would be 30/80 on the exam

but on the grade boundary sheet it says that if you get lower than 35 then it's a U so how does that make sense. How do I getting 30 in the exam gets me a C overall?

Your overall grade is calculated by the UMS you got in your coursework and in your exam. You only need 180 UMS out of the 300 available for a C. You got 105 in your coursework so therefore you'll only need 75 UMS for a C. 75 UMS is equal to 30/80 in the exam.
