RAF Airman selection interview - Notes

Hi all,

I recently passed my selection interview with a lot of guidance from this site.

I have decided to attach the notes I made that helped me pass. Please excuse the handwriting!

Everything my careers adviser interviewed me on is in these notes, only thing i'd look up more is the phases of training and what you do during them.

Last few pages are dedicated to current affairs, so maybe change those up if interview is at later date.

Hope these help!

I've created an account just to reply to this.

Really good of you to post this, really generous thanks so much.

I know its been asked a tonne on here, but just because you've been through it recently what sort of questions did they ask you, any curveballs?

What role where you applying for?
Just skimmed your notes and I think I've figured out you applied for a Weapons Technician role.
Hi!

They follow a guide of some sort, and my interview basically went like this;

First 20 minutes is about younger years such as 11 to 18. They ask you about your commitments outside and inside of school, what positions of leadership you have held such as captain of a team or sergeant in the cadets etc.
They then ask about your past jobs if any, what interested you in the RAF, and then it leads onto the second part of the interview..

They will ask you about the basic training, what stages it is made up of and what each section covers. He spent quite a long time on this so I believe this was an important part of the process. You'll then be asked what specialist training you'll receive, all of which can be found on the papaer they give you after AST.

They also ask about NATO and my advisor threw that in at a random time, along with what it stands for and why it is needed.
Then current ops of the RAF, i just used 'Azotize' as a big one because we just recently started policing Baltic airspace again.
Finally, my advisor just asked if i was aware of current affairs, but did not quiz me on them as I had been told I would. This threw me off because that was the part of the interview I was dreading.

They then ask if you are aware of the drugs policy of the RAF and go on to ask if you personally have had any affiliation with them, stating that this does not necessarily hinder you from joining the RAF.

Yes i applied for Weapons tech, and I was made to believe the interview was going to be hell, but really my advisor made me feel laid back, we even had a few laughs. It wasn't anything like it was made out to be, so really all you need is in those notes!

Hope this helped!
It does help allot, thanks pal. Good luck with your application!

Thank you so much for this really appreciate it! Got my interview next week so this will help a lot.
hi, i have got, my AST test next month and if i pass that, do i have an interview the same day? If not, is the interview at my local AFCO or is it somewhere else?
Hi mate.

If you are successful in the AST for the your chosen trade your interview will be followed up, if not they will show you the trades you have passed in and it will be your choice wether you want to proceed with the application or wait and retake the test. The interview is at your local AFCO, which is where the AST is sat anyway.

Any others questions
I’m happy to help👍🏼

Good luck!

That's good then as on my dashboard it says selection interview to be at RAF Cranwell but I thought it was meant to be at the Afco. A long way for an interview haha
